Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone! I'm Bryan. I emerged from the Windows darkness about two months ago when I started using Ubuntu at work. I soon realized how much I'd been missing out on by not using Linux. As I got more familiar with Linux, I decided to install it on my personal laptop, which was slowing down after 3 years of running Win7. I wanted a distribution that wouldn't hold my hand as much as Ubuntu did, and would allow me both to customize my system and to learn about the inner workings of Linux. I'm very happy with Arch so far, about 5 days in. There have been a few challenges, but that's what I signed up for. So far the excellent Arch Wiki has been able to help me through it all.

I'm excited to be a part of the Arch community and hope I can contribute to making it even better.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello! big_smile I'm new here, I used Ubuntu 10.10 for a while years ago, then I was installing Linux/Windows depending of my humor, had a dual boot for longer and shorter moments too and from around year I'm user of Linux Mint. Now I feel it's time for something new, so Arch - here I come, with my newbie questions. I hope to have a lot of fun with you guys smile

Hello everyone, my name is Bob and this is my first time working with any version of Linux. I chose Arch so i could hopefully get a good initial understanding of how it all works. That and it sounds cool

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone,

I'm on Linux for about 4 years now, originally was on a Debian based (Ubuntu), a friend of mine moved me over Arch Linux.
I learned a damn lot of stuff using it, messing with it, breaking my system a lot of times, fixing it myself etc... What a pleasuring thing to have such a flexible, light, and K.I.S.S. distro.
It is now unthinkable to me to have a computer without an Arch Linux nor is that thinkable to exclusively go back to a Debian based (even if I still have a lil' partition with a Kali to do some particular stuff).

Didn't post a thing before last week or the one before since there was never a problem I couldn't resolve myself, my friends couldn't help me resolve or I couldn't find a workaround here on the forums. smile

The magic of Arch! Thank's for everything!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

I just wanted to say hello. I moved to Arch from Crunchbang about 3 weeks ago, and its absolutely awesome. Pacman, and especially pacaur is worth the move along. Thanks for supporting an operating system ecosystem that is awesome. Hope to be here for a long time. smile

Hello everyone, I'd just like to say a massive thankyou to the developers and all the other contributors. I've been messing about with linux for years now, but never found anything that I liked. When I got my Arch system working for the first time I felt like I'd come home. Thanks once again.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi guys I have been using linux for a couple of years now. I recently switched from debian and really enjoy it so far. I have learned so much about how linux works and how fun it can be to use. Right now I am running 2bwm and urxvt and loving it!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey Mannieberrie, welcome to Arch. Hope you will enjoy using it, but please open up a new thread for issues.

Btw, you might want to install a web browser and a network manager ;-)

EDIT: That is, if I understand your pickle. But do open a new thread.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey everyone,

I started with Linux, well, I think 5 or 6 years ago (I think the second one), first using Ubuntu for 2 Years (which then grew to restrictive), switching over to Debian for quite a time (which soon got too "un-bleeding-edge", but still I liked it and learned a lot about Linux with it).

Half a year ago I then installed Arch on my Laptop (my server and a network I'm managing still run Debian and will stay with it) after I tried it on a separate partition for some months, and I'm glad I migrated.

Some days ago I adopted my first AUR-Package, and I hope I'll find some more.

Greetings from the beautiful city of Regensburg , GER,
pheerai

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi.

Debian was too unstable so I switched to Arch. smile

Well, not exactly, but something (minor) did break on Jessie, but I decided to take the opportunity to try something new, which I had been meaning to do anyway.

Now that I think about it, I should have bug reported it, but it looks like someone already figured it out.

Hello everyone,

I have been using debian based distros for a few years already((ubuntu->mint)x5 -> debianised (mint lmde) - switched repos to sid), however in search for nice rolling distribution i switched to arch, and as for now, it looks nice.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi!

I've been using Ubuntu for a couple years, and finally got tired of unity. Uninstalled unity, installed gnome, everything got messed up so I installed Arch. It's awesome not to have any bloatware other than what I have installed myself, so I really like it so far. Compared to Ubuntu, I tend to have quite a few problems with Arch, so there is a lot of maintenance work required... but overall I'm happ with it!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello all Arch Users and Arch Hackers.

My first journey into Linux was in 2008, when I saw a article about Linux on an Indonesian computer magazine, but my first time with Linux installed was in 2010 when I installed Ubuntu 10.04 into my old Windows PC. Later I sold the PC and switched to laptop, I also distrohopped various time (Ubuntu > Fedora > Mint > Debian > return to Ubuntu before settled on Manjaro Linux which based on Arch, but I also installed Arch on another partition).

Since then I deeply customized my laptop, and used Arch Linux Wiki as main references along with this forum. I hope I can learn more about Arch and Linux in general later. and my other interest are arts, book (mainly fiction) and music (I using combined names of 2 metal acts as my username big_smile)

Greetings from Indonesia and sorry for bad English.

Greetings from Sonoma, California. My first Arch LXDE install on my fabulous Dell D420 went well. So far so good. Arch has one heck of a Wiki. And thank goodness for Wifi-Menu.

Cheers!
