Talking about nice fonts, if anyone is looking for another narrow monospaced font, 'M+ 1m' from the mplus fonts collection is quite nice. Someone wrote a blog post about here a while back.

@jck Frankly, such fonts' target medium is not a screen, but a sheet of paper so you should expect a noticeable difference between them and typical outline typefaces.

Where do I find PT Sans in the infinality-bundle-fonts repo? I know I can get it by hand or through ttf-googlefonts packages, but honestly I'm really happy with your repo and it would be great to know where it is.

EDIT: Clarification about I was speaking about this repo, not the official Arch Repo.

If 'PT Sans' is paratype sans, you have t1-paratype-ibx and ttf-paratype-ibx.
infinality-bundle-fonts is not an official Arch Linux repo.

According to here, here and here, Roboto also has a Thin weight.
However, the one from the repo (ttf-roboto-ibx) doesn't seem to provide it. Is there any particular reason?
I can that the repo one is the new Roboto so it's not like it hasn't been updated recently...

Yes, there has been: there happened to be issues with certain thinnish typefaces, Roboto among others. In such situations, if I cannot find a working solution, I do not include the troublemaker in the package. Users will be still provided with a weight below regular so the difference between font weight used in two following paragraphs (regular vs light) will be preserved, while the difference between light and thin in most use scenarios is usually not quite evident.

Every now and again I re-check the rendering of fonts I have considered critical for some reason and when the issue is gone, I usually put it back to the package. I will look into Roboto again as soon as I am done with my current `ib` job.

Maybe you could use the package changelog (-Qc) to leave a note when you don't include all available typefaces.

Yes, I know what you mean. At small sizes the Thin is just too thin to read. At larger ones though it's quite nice and it's distinguishable from the Light.
It's not a big problem thought, I'll just a local one.

For anyone else interested, you can get it here and the Slab here.
Don't use the whole font though, it doesn't play well with fontconfig. It defaults to the Black, but Roboto:black actually returns the Bold! Also, the Thin is not recognised.
So just take Roboto-Thin.ttf, Roboto-ThinItalic.ttf and RobotoSlab-Thin.ttf and put something like this in your fonts.conf (or conf.d/)

Is there something specific about ttf-dejavu-ib?

I would like to use Dejavu Sans as an XLFD font and took the following command from the Wiki page:

@orschiro No: DejaVu fonts have nothing to do with it. Simply put, outline fonts aren't supposed to be used in Xorg directly, like bitmap fonts. Most of them don't even provide proper bitmaps. You can, however, use them with xterm just like any TTF typeface:

xterm -fa "DejaVu Sans Mono:Regular" -fs 10

If you still want to enable outline fonts in Xorg in the old way, follow the instructions in the Wiki.

I have a question about Droid Sans. Programs using Qt4 do not detect Droid Sans properly.

Please see this screenshot with a Qt4 program (zulucrypt-git) on the left and lxappearance on the right.

Everything is fine. Qt uses foundry information when the same family reports more than one manufacturer, e.g.

$ fc-query DroidSans.ttf | grep foundry
        foundry: "unknown"(s)
$ fc-query DroidSansArmenian.ttf | grep foundry

Since Droid Sans Armenian (and others) is part of the "Droid Sans" alias:
