Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

So here is an update.
I went back and reinstalled everything through the 2.13.91 repo without using the force switch.
Both nautilus and gnome-user-docs had conflicted files, so I didn't installed them.
Same problem as before with permissions, yelp and panel running after log out and log back in.
So problem is not in nautilus for permission as the permission thing also exist when using blaasvis' nautilus on gnome 2.13.92.
Didn't checked which fault it is, maybe gnome-session but didn't tried yet.
Also epiphany from 2.13.92 is not working as should be, cannot log in and remember password to arch forum when deleting files from home folder first.

So all problems still exist.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

I installed 2.13.9x from Blaasvis' server, but I cant get totem to play media of any type; it complains it cannot find the appropriate plugin. I have all the  gst .10 plugins available on the server. Any hints?

RC is already out, I'm running it wink

ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/desktop/2 … 92/sources

You just have to wait before somebody is in a position to upload it to a server.
I believe RC is supposed to go into testing, but probably not before some bugs are screened out.

Don't know if that'll help. On my machine totem is also not playing video files through gstreamer, at least not the video part of the video wink
Not a big problem as I can use mplayer...

Just installed some more codecs to be sure:

bash-3.1$ pacman -Q | grep gstreamer0.10
gstreamer0.10 0.10.3-1
gstreamer0.10-alsa 0.10.3-1
gstreamer0.10-base 0.10.3-1
gstreamer0.10-cdparanoia 0.10.3-1
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.0-1
gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs 0.10.3-1
gstreamer0.10-good 0.10.2-1
gstreamer0.10-mad 0.10.1-1
gstreamer0.10-ogg 0.10.3-1
gstreamer0.10-pango 0.10.3-1
gstreamer0.10-theora 0.10.3-1
gstreamer0.10-ugly 0.10.1.3-1

Anyway, I'm not sure if it is just a stupid codec issue.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.0-1 extremely important for video wink

So it was installed as you can see in my previous post wink

I'll have a look a the PKGBUILD....which I don't have..., well I make one myself and see if I can make it work

[edit]
Rebuilding does not have any effect....but installing gst-ffmpeg from repo does  roll

So totem (1.3.91) should be using gstreamer0.8, at least on my machine?
Can anybody confirm?

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

gnome 2.13.92 fsck-ing up permissions is related to gnome-vfs. Downgrading to gnome-vfs-2.13.91 solves the problem, at least for now.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

One has to explicitly build totem against gstreamer 0.10.

It's very much worth it though. mine plays pretty much everything except real video and dvd's right now, including HD h.264 stuff and the like. much smoother compared to the 0.8 experience.

BTW, could we also get gnome-keyring-manager. It's part of the official gnome release IIRC. Thanks.

There is a link to the PKGBUILDs of the 2.13.91 version. You can use these and modify the version numbers to the 2.,13.92 release.

Don't forget to patch gnome-vfs with the patch indicated above.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

I'll give it a shot

[edit]
I'm going to check stuff on a new user, it is not functioning quite well. At least same behavior as I already experienced.
Also yelp has been build with beagle support I saw (well it was not running), and so should libbeagle be added as dep. Further it crashes as before.

Clock applet not working, but going to check that on a clean user. It was working before for me.

Also after some log-out/log-in 'panel already running'

Looking at system monitor scares the hel out of me, well this was also a point on my install, some things are listed over 10 times neutral, still only one instance is running.

Anyway, I check on a new user.

[edit2]
no difference.
Let me check if it is install related (if I don't mix my own and your installation) by removing all of gnome.

[edit3]
nope, it was not install related  roll
this release is so odd, just look at my system monitor on the screenshot:

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

I've upgraded, i haven't had ur problem pressh, however i've got another problem with gdm, it says that user gdm doesn't exist while the User in gdm.conf is nobody, i created the user with /dev/null as home/shell and it worked, i erased the user again the prob came back, so i downgraded to the older one as for now...

yeah it was already solved _Gandalf_
There only remains a little problem with gnome-session for me which crashes sometimes when logging out, giving me those ridiculous duplications of apps running.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

Confirm the GDM problem.

Could you guys please check whether gnome-volume-manager works for you? That's the thing automounting CD's and the like. When I try to start it manually from command line, it exits again immediately w/o error message. It's not that it demonizes, for with ps -A | grep volum it cant be found either. All works with the 1.4 version from extra.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

gdm will be fixed. need to look at the new config.

as root:
mkdir -p /var/run/console/
touch /var/run/console/$user
