ThomasKing0529 wrote:So, how to install plasma-next? If I uninstall kdebase-workspace with pacman -Rdd, then kdm is missing, how to run the new kwin?
In kf5 kwin is gone, you'll need to use a different display manager, like sddm or lightdm.
Thanks, I'll take a try

Something seems messed up for me related to kdeinit5. I'm using the Kf5 -git builds from AUR (many of them) but the problem was also present when I used plasma-desktop 5.1 from AUR.
Upon trying to start aur/konqueror-frameworks-git I get a pop-up saying this and it never starts:
KDEInit could not launch 'kfmclient':
Could not open library '/usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kfmclient'.
Cannot load library /usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kfmclient: (/usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kfmclient.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)"
I checked for '/usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kfmclient.so' and it is indeed not there. I also checked under /opt just in case and it is not there either. (I only have an kf5-akonadi build which installed there).
The curious thing is that if I start konqueror from a terminal it works. However I cannot actually visit any web sites. When entering a site in the address bar and hitting enter it does nothing. This is likely related to the kfmclient issue as I understand it.
This entry also appears in my journal and seems to correlate with it:
Oct 18 00:32:02 computer kdeinit5[447]: KXMessages used on non-X11 platform! This is an application bug.
Oct 18 00:32:02 computer kdeinit5[447]: KXMessages used on non-X11 platform! This is an application bug.
There also seems to be some general weirdness with kdeinit5 as I also see these in the journal:
Oct 18 00:23:12 computer kdeinit5[460]: autoStart2Done timedout, this is a BUG!
Oct 18 00:23:12 computer kdeinit5[451]: QObject::connect: No such signal QAction::globalShortcutChanged(QKeySequence)

I've tried re-installing all the Kde5 packages. Also I moved .kde4 and my whole .config directory and rebooted just in case it might be related to old config files. That did not help. Any suggestions or is anyone else seeing this? "libkdeinit5_kfmclient" pretty much does not even exist in Google so there seems little to go on.

Trying to install plasma-desktop fro aur gives me:
==> Building and installing package
==> Install or build missing dependencies for plasma-desktop:
error: target not found: kinfocenter
Any help?
EDIT: Seems like my mirrors were a bit behind. I -Syyu'ed and now the package is there.

Any help?
Plasma 5 is currently being moved from AUR to [extra], so packages may be temporarily unavailable until your mirror syncs. I'd recomment you wait until the move is finished, that will save you quite a lot of compiling.

Maybe you should wait a little longer until all commits enter the main repo.
As you can see in the previous post, Andrea is adding those packages right now.

I usually work around it by toggling desktop effects ( alt + shift +f12 ) every time it happens, that forces kwin to crash and a new instance to start.
BTW Sorry for the double post.

after upgrading my PATH from .bash_profile is not recognized anymore. What should I do to make Plasma find it?
Nevermind, found it.

Hi,
Currently, audiothumbs depends on kdebase-workspace. Since this one must be removed for installing Plasma-Next packages, do you either know an altnernative for Dolphin to have covers support for music files or whether this package could be rebuild for KDE5 (since not being an expert at all in that area, I can’t be sure of that by just looking at the package)?
Thanks!

It doesn't look like kdebase-workspace should be a dependency for that package at all. You should report it to the maintainer so that he removes it.

After much removing of KDE bits and re-installing KF5 and plasma-next, I've got it working... but for some reason KDE4 applications ignore the color scheme I set and are stuck in what appears to be the default oxygen color scheme. I tried deleting .config/Trolltech.conf to no avail, and I already deleted .kde, .kde4, and everything kde-related in .config I could find before re-installing plasma-next. Any suggestions on fixing this?
If it helps, Trolltech.conf keeps re-appearing, and I examined it, and saw:

Which appears to be the correct colors for the scheme I'm using, Breeze Dark, so it looks like something other than Trolltech.conf is the culprit.

Hello, last night I tried the new plasma desktop, usually works pretty well ..but there are some issues that do not work to me:
During the upgrade among other things I had to delete to upgrade plasma-addons-applets-icontasks and kdeplasma-addons-applets-ShowDesktop because these are in conflict with kdeplasma-frameworks-addons package (i think this package incorporates among others "icontask" widget).
Once open session in the attempt to add the new desktop the widget "icontask" but i can not (click in the widget but is not added...). Another issue is the volume (kdemultimedia-kmix) don't loaded on boot (i resolve adding kmix : system settings--->Startup and shutdown-->autostart ).
Thanks.

Indeed, I’ve just removed the dependency and it build fine. I’ve reported it on AUR. Thanks!

Why do you mean by "custom shortcuts"? There are many different type of shortcuts in KDE: global shortcuts, application shortcuts, plasmoid shortcuts...

I have a rather weird bug, after upgrading everything works except any plasma dialog turns the entire screen black, I have to alt+tab to get out of it.
For example click the "K menu" ( / start menu) turns the screen black, right clicking the clock and choosing digital clock settings or pressing alt+f2.
Relevant packages:
nvidia 343.22-4
plasma-desktop 5.1.0.1-2
qt5-base 5.3.2-2
kdelibs 4.14.1-2
kdelibs4support 5.3.0-1
kwin 5.1.0.1-1
I narrowed it down to kwin_x11, turning off all effects, composition and opengl backends does absolutely nothing.
Submitted a bug report @ https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340132
