I see you brought the png exploit to the taglist. Very nice results.

Note that both lain and vicious can do what you are requesting for the widgets, so you can just choose one.

Also, since you're using third-parties, unless you addes substantial mods, it's always better to link them as git submodules.

What do you mean with the png exploit? I looked at the configs and I only found

tags = { "","","",...}

Indeed, the tag text fields are empty because their backgrounds are pngs.

Ok thanks. And the rest is then done using the theme.lua as far as I see where the bg icons are set to the png images?

Ok, here's mine.
Clean:

I hit mod4+enter to toggle "Terminal Mode", which is basically a dropdown terminal urxvtc with byobu-tmux, as I find it easier to manage than multiple terminals(google "awesome wm dropdown terminal"):

spacefm as desktop (don't use it much, but I like to see my files like that)

Change your theme and add theme.tasklist_bg_focus

There is some comments in the theme file to explain available options. Note that those colors can also be patterns or gradients.

It has been a long time since I posted a few screenshot. This year (I made the last screenshot on Jan 01) I mostly worked to port everything to the Radical ( https://github.com/Elv13/radical ) framework. So while my config gained tons of cool features, it looked about the same as this

This now start to change as I am now working on the look again. My first improvement is to write a new programmatic pattern module. The old config relied on .png for most patterns. The new one generate them using a chain of filters like

(plain color) -> (add stripes) -> (add noise) -> (add a 3D gradient overlay) -> (convert to repeating patterns)[/center]

As always, here is an overkill example:

This one has:

Tons of 3D effect
Triangles in the taglist prefix
Honeycomb in the right sensor section
Noise in inactive titlebars
1px Stripes
3px stripes for selected tag

All of this without a single bg png!

Here is a less overkill day to day screenshot (not fake overbusy NASA style as the one above )
