Often when i resize or close a windows plasma crash, i need to kill sddm by tty then restart kde. Am I the only one?
Yeah, breeze is still pretty buggy but you don't have to kill whole sddm or kde. You can just switch tty to kill kwin_x11, then switch back and rerun kwin_x11 (for example krunner is still working without kwin).
For me it's buggy as hell (I have multi monitor setup) so I ended up using just plain xrandr.

Hi to all,
today, i reboot my system(manjaro + plasma 5) and end up with a black screen after sddm login.switching to a console, i can can login with the root(startx in root console) account without problem but can't find what is preventing the desktop to start correctly with the normal user.
i' think that it is the breeze theme but don't know what file to modify to set it to oxygen or what file to delete to reset plasma for that user.
Help please.

Anyone managed to set color scheme correctly for KDE4 apps? Pure Qt4 apps are working/looking as expected but KDE4 apps are using some ugly color scheme that doesn't match with breeze.

Works for me. Changing the color scheme in systemsettings immediately changes the KDE4 apps color. Ironically, it doesn't work that well for KF5 apps: they need to be restarted to pick up the new colors. Try removing all color stuff from .kde4/share/config/kdeglobals

Welcome to Arch Linux. Unfortunately, we don't know much about the details of Manjaro or whether they are applicable to Arch Linux. You will want to take your questions to the Manjaro forums.
Thanks.

Hi,
I accidentally checked "Don't ask again" check box and clicked "No" button on klipper clear history option. Does any one knows how to reset that dialog box. I couldn't find configuration file for klipper in .confi directory

I want to display seconds in my digitalclock, but it's very irritating to see the whole bare wobble every second.
So I finally looked how to change it and set it to use a monospace font in /usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.digitalclock/contents/ui/DigitalClock.qml
Components.Label {
id: timeLabel
font {
family: "Monospace"

It "is" very buggy, agreed.
Switching with xrandr is also very very slow - are you finding that as well? It takes my 2 monitors a good 3-4 mins to figure themselves out.
and god forbid, if I then disconnect one of the monitors - all existing apps end up with unrecoverable black screens - they still work, but with black screens.
I am also finding keyboard layout switching very buggy. works sometimes and not sometimes.

Anyone else having troubles with the Breeze icon theme and pure Qt apps(see screens below)?
I selected it from both kcmshell4 icons and kcmshell5 icons. KDE4 apps are not affected, in fact.
...So, i installed under /usr/share/icons two themes for testing: compass and flattr.
The two themes are applied to Qt applications.
It just seems a problem with breeze.

Is there a way to place icons on the taskbar in plasma next? I uninstalled pretty much all of the kde4 packages before installing kf5/plasma next. So far I was unable to get an icon to sit on the taskbar to launch specific applications. Also baloo is enabled by default so on a machine that has limited processor power it is useful to switch it off in the system settings. It will be interesting to see the set of new kf5 packages that will be released in December that will make plasma next much more usable. It seems that there is a very limited set of widgets available for the new DE at this time too. I like the widgets currently in KDE4 that can show running plots of CPU usage, network data rates and also temperatures. I guess corresponding widgets for plasma next will become available over time too.

@mcloaked: Yes, you can get the icon only task manager(along with other plasmoids, like a cpu/mem/swap monitor) with the package kdeplasma-addons-frameworks. As for Baloo:
kcmshell5 kcm_baloofile
And add your user home to the excluded directories.

Drag and drop from the menu, or right click the menu item -> add to panel

I guess that is another way though what I did was to go to system settings->search and selected desktop search and then unchecked the Enable Desktop Search check box.

I can't do either of those methods. Right clicking the menu item only offers "Add to Favourites" - and dragging the icon to the taskbar does nothing. Perhaps it is because I have uninstalled all of the previous KDE4 packages and started with only the kf5, kf5-aids and plasma next groups installed? So presumably there will be replacement packages for all of the previous KDE4 packages as time passes?

1) Right mouse on the desktop unblock widgets
2) Click on bottom right "three lines" icon
3) Drag icon from Kickoff to taskbar
This must work!!

Where do I find sddm and KDE logs? After an upgrade, even if no kf5 or plasma package has been modified, the DE is slow to load, no taskbar and no use of keyboard. I want to see if some dependencies is missing on start.

In systemd's journal.

My Plasma install refuses to start, after login from sddm, I'm left with a blank screen and a mouse pointer. Going through the journal and .xsession-errors I get
QXcbConnnection : Xcb : error 3 (bad window)
I tried downgrading kinit, plasma-desktop and plasma-frameworks with no change.

I don't know if your system has any similarity to mine but I initially could not get sddm to start after booting my machine. I posted the solution in my case at: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1471264
It is possible that your problem is different but it may be worth looking at the referenced thread?

Widgets were already unblocked on my machine - I had to open the Kickoff before the "three lines" icon (that allows taskbar alterations), and have the icon of interest already displayed in kickoff before opening the "three lines" icon - then dragging the item to the desktop works fine but dragging to the taskbar does not place the icon on the taskbar. Even without the three lines icon opened I can still drag application icons to the desktop but not the taskbar.
Hence I still cannot place an icon on the taskbar for launching an application.

Seems unrelated, in your case sddm never started but here starts fine for me, allows me to login and startkde is actually executed, it's just when sddm tries to start the plasma session that something dies.
edit: I did try your timer unit to confirm where the problem lies.

Trying to read journalct but I didn't recognize nothing of interesting, still can't use properly my keyboard. Stuck on logo loading for too long, after sddm works properly, then KDE starts but I can't use the keyboard nor for call krunner nor for writing on file.

Could you try the same with Kicker? In widgets there are two Applications Menu: Kickoff and Kicker.
Please check your packages: in my case I have installed kf5 kf5-aids plasma-next ***groups***
