Will Vista on the horizon, with promises with better security. I wonder if this article is as relevent. Nontheless, newbies and oldies alike, I found a pretty cool article which might clear up some questions in the security between Linux and Windows.
Newbies eat it up. It'll anwer a lot of questions about basic Linux and Windows security thaty ou might have, while debunking a few urban legends....take that MythBusters.

Anytime.
I thought it might help clear some questions in the long run for those newbies to Linux/Arch who actually use the search function!

Didn't read the whole thing yet, but I found a little mistake:
In contrast, bugs in graphics card drivers are a common cause of the Windows blue-screen-of-death. That's because Windows integrates graphics into the kernel, where a bug can cause a system failure. With only a few proprietary exceptions (such as the third-party NVidia graphics driver), Linux forces all graphics drivers to run outside the kernel.
This is not entirely true. First of all, the X Server itself has to have the setuid bit set to gain admin privileges at some point and access the graphics hardware directly. While this should not crash the machine, a flaw in the X Server itself may be exploited to execute malicious code with root privileges.
Second, the DRI infrastructure in Xorg has a kernel backend (DRM), which has to be accessible by the user in order to use direct rendering. A bug in the DRM driver could theoretically be exploited, because the kernel itself is monolithic (as explained in the document).

and everyone knows that X hard-crashes the machine every time the ATI fglrx driver crashes when switching back & forth to fb and the like..

True.
Overall, there are some fallicies, but I think this is part of a greater argument that is never going to be 100% true. ever.

lol. this thread is really old, but I dug up using the search query "monolithic", since I've been doing some research on kernel architecture.
My question is... why do Linux machines reset their uptime at 497 days?
thanks

This thread is really really old. You are probably better off getting starting a new thread for your issues/questions
Read the part about necro bumping on the Forum Etiquettes from my sig.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !
