Cannot create ad hoc network

Hi,

I'm trying to create an ad hoc wifi network using NetworkManager applet. I've done this before many times, but now it just doesn't work. The applet icon spins to show it's working and during that time the new network is visible in the list of wifi networks, but after a few seconds it disappears. Dmesg has one line related to the issue: "IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp6s0: link is not ready". The wifi is working, I can see other networks and I can connect to them as well. I'm using Linux version 3.17.2-1.

Does it work if you turn off iPv6?

Re: Cannot create ad hoc network

I disabled IPv6 in kernel. It still doesn't work and now I have no messages in dmesg.

Re: Cannot create ad hoc network

So I tried making unencrypted connection and it works. I don't understand it one bit, but at least I have something now. It would be awesome if someone had any idea what package upgrade messed it up.

Re: Cannot create ad hoc network

I think I've seen this problem too. However I am limited to WEP encryption only. Might be a limitation of the driver?
