any fix for this issue i was looking at the bug tracker about this issue
any help would be appreciated.

here is a snapshot of my pacman.conf with the relevant repo that i did disable due to the above error
everything is in order yes?

#[kde 14.12]
#Server = http://kde-beta.wirephire.com/repo/$arch
#SigLevel = Never

I tried the instructions on the front page for Arch and i still get the same error.

Just change [kde 14.12] to [kde-beta]

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

The kdeartwork-styles and kdeartwork-kscreensaver packages from this repo can't be installed, because they depend on "kdebase-workspace" which is only provided by the KDE4 version in extra/, and conflicts with most other things from this repo:

$ pacman -Si kde-beta/kdeartwork-{styles,kscreensaver} |? depends
Depends On : kdebase-workspace
Depends On : kdebase-workspace libkexiv2

$ pacman -Ss kdebase-workspace
extra/kdebase-workspace 4.11.14-1 (kde kdebase)
Provides the interface and basic tools for the KDE workspace

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

That is supposed to be that way, I think. Styles are kwin styles, but you won't be using kwin4 (part of kdebase-workspace), but kwin5, so no point in installing them. As for screensavers, I think they've depreciated them alltogether for plasma-next.

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

Then why are those two packages provided by the kde-beta repo, have a 14.11.97 version number, and are dependencies for kde-beta/kde-meta-kdeartwork-14.12-1?

Because they are part of the 14.12 release. That doesn't mean that they are meant to be used with Plasma 5, Applications and Plasma releases are completely independent now

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

I'm confused. What's the relationship between "Frameworks 5" and "Plasma 5", and how does the "Applications 14.12" release fit in with this? Does the same "Applications" release contain both KF5 and KDE4 apps?

Also, most icons in the programs from [kde-beta] and from the "plasma-next" group in [extra], do not show up for me: http://i.imgur.com/PNDLo7m.png
I tried switching the icon theme in systemsettings5, running kbuildsycoca5, and rebooting, but it had no effect.
Did anyone else have problems like that?

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

I am not an expert by any means, but I don't think Plasma 5 (Next) is related to Apps 14.12. KDE has indicated it may take a year or two for the apps to be proted to Plasma 5 Next.

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

Plasma 5 is the desktop, but you can use it even without KWin, so it's not a complete desktop. The KFramework is a collection of useful libraries mostly for better integration. Ofc. Plasma etc. uses that too. Then there's KDE Apps, which are just some KDE Apps (wow...) but now with a different verson numbering and (partly) new libraries (-> KFramework) QT5, etc.

so what’s the current state?

are there outstanding problems with the builds or simply the holidays getting in the way?

Current state is probably still that nobody cares about KDE packages.

It took at least 2 months to get Plasma 5 packages after it was released, and now some of the KDE packages don't even have any maintainer.

So what? Whom do you criticize? The community for not providing support and packages? Why don't *you* do it, then?

I don't think the community can upload packages to official repositories.

AUR-Packages. Then call it PKGBUILDs if you want so. Still: The pkg *should* be built in order to test the PKGBUILD. It's a comparible effort, considering that there may be even more support needed.

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

arojas said he had no interest in updating his repo because the real deal will be in the official repo soon.

if it’s not a matter of “take arojas’ PKGBUILDS and use them to build the final KDE applications 4.12”, then

1. why is this so?
2. how can the community help?

maybe AnAkkk is simply frustrated by a lack of communication: there are PKGBUILDs for the beta, and the applications are flagged out of date. some have no package maintainer.

so what now? we wait until some trusted user registers him/herself as maintainer, tests if the beta PKGBUILDs still work, and uploads builds to [testing]? what part has the community here?

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

In trying to fix the problems. The AUR is completely community driven. There are wiki pages about how to submit a PKGBUILD etc.

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

didn’t think you were so quick and edited my post. there are PKGBUILDs done by arojas. there’s AUR packages like https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/kate-git/ and https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dolp … works-git/

what’s missing?

ah, sorry. didn’t really immerse myself into politics wink

i meant [community-testing], perhaps? or developers. no matter: you did the PKGBUILDs, now they need to be built with the final releases and uploaded to some binary testing repositiory by whomever

This I can understand, but I just don't think that the way he stated this was appropriate and I still think that he should have stated this so.

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

sure, but maybe we should still do something to address those concerns as (even if AnAkkk doesn’t), i have them.

i don’t really know what’s missing until pacman -Syu replaces kdesdk-kate-4.14.3-1 with  kate-14.12.0-1 or higher, and i’d really like to know big_smile

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

Then find someone who has time and fun with doing all that... ;-)  - expertise wouldn't be too bad, either.
I would only have fun as school is calling and I'm not good enough to write PKGBUILDs etc.

Neither do I have a strong enough PC :-(.

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

why would you need a stong PC? there are buildbots, you don’t have to build packages locally and upload the binary versions.
