streaming box.

i was wondering how to set up a box that has music and movies be able to stream it when i'm on another box (both at home). i set the one with the movies and music with samba but on the other box when i log into it and double click on a movie file it wants to download it to the box im requesting it from, even when i click on 'open with kmplayer' for example. also would i be able to load the music from that box into say amarok on the 'client' box with having to saving anything there?. thx for any tips.

Re: streaming box.

I have a setup like that, the only difference being the use of NFS instead of samba. It works fine - I have the NFS shares from the server mounted on my laptop, and I can browse and play with no problems. No KDE around here, so I can't say anything about amarok. I use mplayer-cvs and xfmedia mostly, and it all just works.

Re: streaming box.

the NFS share is mounted, so I enter:

mplayer /nfs_mount_point/directory/file
