KDE Applications 14.12 are now in [extra]
- Kate, Okteta, Gwenview and I think all KF5 based applications have flat KF5-Menu-Style (the dialogs too): blue flat background for chosen menu-entry instead of 3D-dark grey; white menu instead of 3D-greyI don't like breeze or flat style :-); thus is there a possibility to change it back to oxygen for KF5-based applications within KDE Workspace 4 ?

I want also to know the answer, I don't like the flat design,
I don't find the answer with this link :

Hopefully it will be possible to install the oxygen Qt5 theme in KDE4 when 5.2 is released next Tuesday

Yes i hope so too, because
$ kate -style=oxygen
looks more ugly than the default theme. :-)

What is the recommended way to upgrade from KDE4 to KF5/Plasma next?
# pacman -Rsc kdebase-workspace
# pacman -S kf5 kf5-aids plasma-next
Is that all?

- Konsole is missing localization (I`ve an english menu)
Hmm, when I start konsole from K-Menu I've konsole V2.14.2 using platform 4.14.4 with english menu but with my profile settings (background color, etc)
when I start konsole from konsole, I've konsole V3.0.1 using frameworks 5.6.0 with german menu but with default profile settings

That's strange, it's not possible to have both versions of konsole installed simultaneously. Maybe you have the old one loaded in memory, have you restarted your session after updating?

Ok, so this update broke my system in these ways (that I've found so far):
1. Opening documents associated with Kwrite stopped working (like plain text documents)
2. My custom Konsole profiles are gone
3. Oxygen/KF5 mixed application appearance (is this what we have to live with until the end of KDE 4 or is there a fix?)
And global shortcuts to Konsole and Kwrite stopped working (but these could easily be reassigned, only small annoyance is that the old ones are still listed under global shortcuts)
Now how do I fix it?

1. What does "stopped working" mean?
2. Copy .kde4/share/apps/konsole to .local/share/konsole
3. This has already been discussed at length in this same thread.

1. Stopped working means any file associated with Kwrite will now be opened in whatever other program is associated next in order, for example for textfiles for me that is Okular.
I guess I could start looking through all file-types and reassign anything that is assigned to Kwrite, but that would take very long time and the potential to mess something up is high, so before I do this I wanted to know if there is a more general fix.
2. That works, thanks!
3. Only read what's said after 14.12 was released since I thought there would be many problems discussed RE beta code that would be fixed before release. I'll read the rest now to try to answer my question.
Edit: Missed the answer to 3, was just a few posts over mine. Guess I need to patch my reading skills.
Hopefully it will be possible to install the oxygen Qt5 theme in KDE4 when 5.2 is released next Tuesday

Yes, they need to be reassigned. Quick & dirty fix: open .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list, search & replace "kde4-kwrite.desktop" with "org.kde.kwrite.desktop"

Thank you, that was the kind of fix I was looking for, guess I need to relogin in order for this to take effect. This probably saved me a few hours work it was 216 replacements.
Since everyone that uses Kwrite needs to do this, should this not be on the Archlinux start page or done by a install script?

Yes, but also funny.
Of course I rebooted

maybe it's both konsoleV3.0.1 (I don't see any other differences), but with wrong "Help/About konsole" when started from K-Menu; Here you see my processes one started from K-Menu, second one in xterm
$ ps -ef | grep konsole | grep -v grep

3264 1 0 00:02 pts/2 00:00:01 konsole
I will dig deeper tomorrow
All in all this was an almost perfect update

I need to fix this for Gwenview too, would the right new value for gwenview be "org.kde.gwenview.desktop"?
Is it enough to change this one file or might there be other KDE config files that should be changed? I guess Kate also needs this kind of fix. Any other? Konsole?
Could we come up with a complete list of changes that needs to be done to the config files to have the desktop working correctly again?

I also have a similar thing happening as midixinga. Open konsole from K-menu or krunner get konsole 2.14.2 using KDE Dev platform 4.14.4. Open konsole from konsole or xterm opens a visually obvious kde5 version: 3.01 on framework 5.6.0. Pacman updated 5 minutes ago and then rebooted.
Edit:
pacman shows:
$ pacman -Qs konsole
local/kdeplasma-addons-applets-konsoleprofiles 4.14.3-3 (kde kdeplasma-addons)
List and launch Konsole profiles
local/kdeplasma-addons-runners-konsolesessions 4.14.3-3 (kde kdeplasma-addons)
Matches Konsole Sessions
local/konsole 14.12.1-1 (kde kdebase)
Terminal

For those of us who fully switched to KF5/Plasma 5 is it ok to remove below packages that were required by kdebase-workspace:
baloo4-akonadi
kde-base-artwork
kdepim-runtime
polkit-kde
libxklavier
xcb-util-renderutil
Thanks

Yes; I uninstalled konsole knotifyconfig kpty yakuake kdeplasma-addons-applets-konsoleprofiles kdeplasma-addons-runners-konsolesessions konsolepart4, logged off and reinstalled it after login -> no changes
Fresh new user has the same problem
There is an entry in ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu below system-menu
<Filename>kde4-konsole.desktop</Filename>
but no file /usr/share/applications/kde4/konsole.desktop
anyway: I deleted the line in ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu -> no changes
Ok, problem has to be in /usr; my knowledge is to less, to know exactly how K-menu works

Ok, problem has to be in /usr; my knowledge is to less, to know exactly how K-menu works
The problem is in the /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_konsole.so file. Removing it should fix the issue. See https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/43558 for details.

Thanks a lot - fixed it for me: Konsole V3 with germen menu
with
ln -s ~/.kde4/share/apps/konsole/Shell.profile ~/.local/share/konsole/Shell.profile
I've back my old profile, too; but I think I have to remove the link, when I change to Plasma 5 ?

It has nothing to do with Plasma. The symlink is needed if you want to keep your KDE4 and KF5 konsole profiles in sync, while there are apps that use the KDE4 konsole part (like yakuake, dolphin, or the KDE4 sessions plasmoid). When all these apps are moved to KF5 you can remove it.

<..> When all these apps are moved to KF5 you can remove it.
So maybe it's better to move ~/.kde4/share/apps/konsole/Shell.profile to ~/.local/share/konsole/ and to create a symlink in ~/.kde4/share/apps/konsole/ ?

If you get an error "Error loading QML file: file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.katesessions/contents/ui/katesessions.qml:162:13: NewSessionDialog is not a type" when trying to use Kate session widget remove lines

Hey,
just upgraded to the new applications and now I have mainly two problems so far: Is that just me or is moving zoomed photos with the mouse broken in Gwenview? My cursor is shaking wild.
The other thing: I'm using reversed scrolling, set the toggle in system settings. The new applications don't respect that. Is there a way to set the value without installing the KDE 5 system settings etc..? Thank you!
PS: Just realized that Dolphin doesn't show my places/folder shortcuts. They are still existent in a Plasmoid but Dolphin doesn't show them.

Yes I see this too. Scrolling around large images with the arrow keys works. I upgraded only gwenview, I thought I'd follow Applications & Desktop Environments for a few days to see how many KDE threads appear .
