The other day I updated the kernel to version 3.18.5-1-ARCH and now evolution doens't start up anymore. The log says:
Feb 03 10:16:00 tmow systemd-coredump[6813]: Process 6792 (evolution) of user 1000 dumped core.
Feb 03 10:16:00 tmow kernel: evolution[6792]: segfault at 7f504e8b3531 ip 00007f506426a745 sp 00007fffadf06e68 error 7 in libcrypto.so.1.0.0[7f50641ff000+24d000]
Feb 03 10:15:21 tmow systemd-coredump[6767]: Process 6748 (evolution) of user 1000 dumped core.I have no clue how to fix this. Anyone experience the same problem?
EDIT: It seems unlikly that the kernel update cause the segmentation fault. See my post below for a list of all upgraded packages.

How did you corrolate the issue to the kernel? Did you upgrade other packages beside the kernel "the other day"? Please check /var/log/pacman.log.

Evolution starts for me under 3.18.5
Does it work if you downgrade the kernel to 3.18.4?

You are right, I can't correlate this to the kernel update.

Downgrade that list of packages one by one until you find the culprit.

It was openssl.
Thank you for supporting me.

I had the same problem, turned out to be *drum roll* the Google Talk plugin from AUR.
Backtrace:
#0 ... in OPENSSL_ia32_cpuid () from /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.1.0.0
#1 ... in ?? () from /opt/google/talkplugin/libnpgoogletalk.soSeems the old version I had, was no longer compatible with current OpenSSL. Updating the Talk Plugin solved it.
Why Evolution is loading it, I have no Idea.

Hi,
I seem to have a similar problem. Evolution doesn't start anymore....only returns the "segmentation fault (core dumped)" message.
I don't have the Talk Plugin installed, at least I don't have a directory called /opt/google/
so how can I find out my culprit?
evolution worked fine for me 2 days ago ![]()

nope, cirrus, I haven't found it yet...
so you could very well be right with identifying the webkitgtk as the culprit!!
