Evolution doesn't work after update

The other day I updated the kernel to version 3.18.5-1-ARCH and now evolution doens't start up anymore. The log says:

Feb 03 10:16:00 tmow systemd-coredump[6813]: Process 6792 (evolution) of user 1000 dumped core.
Feb 03 10:16:00 tmow kernel: evolution[6792]: segfault at 7f504e8b3531 ip 00007f506426a745 sp 00007fffadf06e68 error 7 in libcrypto.so.1.0.0[7f50641ff000+24d000]
Feb 03 10:15:21 tmow systemd-coredump[6767]: Process 6748 (evolution) of user 1000 dumped core.

I have no clue how to fix this. Anyone experience the same problem?

EDIT: It seems unlikly that the kernel update cause the segmentation fault. See my post below for a list of all upgraded packages.

Re: Evolution doesn't work after update

How did you corrolate the issue to the kernel? Did you upgrade other packages beside the kernel "the other day"? Please check /var/log/pacman.log.

Re: Evolution doesn't work after update

Evolution starts for me under 3.18.5

Does it work if you downgrade the kernel to 3.18.4?

Re: Evolution doesn't work after update

You are right, I can't correlate this to the kernel update.

Here are the packages I upgraded when evolution was running fine.

[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded libtxc_dxtn (1.0.1-5 -> 1.0.1-6)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded openssl (1.0.1.l-1 -> 1.0.2-1)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded chromium (40.0.2214.93-1 -> 40.0.2214.94-1)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded libspiro (1:0.2-2 -> 1:0.3.20150131-1)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded fontforge (20141126-2 -> 20141126-3)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded gtk3 (3.14.7-1 -> 3.14.8-1)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded hplip (3.14.10-1 -> 3.14.10-2)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded lib32-harfbuzz (0.9.37-1 -> 0.9.38-1)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded lib32-openssl (1.0.1.l-1 -> 1.0.2-1)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded lib32-sqlite (3.8.8-1 -> 3.8.8.1-1)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded lib32-qt4 (4.8.6-1 -> 4.8.6-3)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded libgee (0.16.0-1 -> 0.16.1-1)
[2015-02-02 14:29] [ALPM] upgraded linux (3.18.4-1 -> 3.18.5-1)

After that update evolution does always crash.

Re: Evolution doesn't work after update

Downgrade that list of packages one by one until you find the culprit.

Re: Evolution doesn't work after update

It was openssl.

Thank you for supporting me.

Re: Evolution doesn't work after update

I had the same problem, turned out to be *drum roll* the Google Talk plugin from AUR.

Backtrace:

#0  ... in OPENSSL_ia32_cpuid () from /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.1.0.0
#1  ... in ?? () from /opt/google/talkplugin/libnpgoogletalk.so

Seems the old version I had, was no longer compatible with current OpenSSL. Updating the Talk Plugin solved it.

Why Evolution is loading it, I have no Idea.

Re: Evolution doesn't work after update

Hi,

I seem to have a similar problem. Evolution doesn't start anymore....only returns the "segmentation fault (core dumped)" message.
I don't have the Talk Plugin installed, at least I don't have a directory called /opt/google/

so how can I find out my culprit?
evolution worked fine for me 2 days ago sad

Re: Evolution doesn't work after update

nope, cirrus, I haven't found it yet...
so you could very well be right with identifying the webkitgtk as the culprit!!
