[Solved] No optical medium found: {hard,firm}ware,... related?

Hi,
Got an optical drive/burner that won't mount or read any medium, while being well recognized. Tested on Arch plus various pinguins.
Is there a way to test where the issue comes from before go shopping?

The drive is a Pioneer that is well recognized in (uefi) Bios.
And by burning apps like xfburn:

# dmesg | grep -i dvd

brw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 11, 0 Feb 8 2015 sr0

And so on on the drive side (udisks --dump, cd-info --list-drives, wodim --checkdrive... everything's looks fine to me).

Now for the medium.
Any try to read data {DVDs,CDs} and AUdio CDs failed hmm

Note I changed the SATA cable, cleaned the lens (with a dedicated pancake), changed SATA mode in the BIOS between AHCI and IDE.

Is that enough to know for sure this drive has some dead part with no checkup function to test/report it?
Or can it be a firmware's issue? I see it has 1.01 revision and there is a 1.02 firmware
Not sure this drive is worth spending another couple of hours (have no Windows running on this machine...)

Well! I'm happy to say the Pioneer drive reads pancakes... after i found out how to access to the lens and clean the whole lot (with air spray, screen cleaning liquid and leather cloth) smile

- It boots bootable medium
- reads any CD and DVD I throw in

Now I can read these aging DVDs and back them up! Whether on 25Gb Blue-rays + dvdisaster's Error correction data, or on a couple of HDDs + online backup for some, but that's another subject.
