Samba

Can anyone give me any tips on how to get samba working?  I've been at this for 12 hours now and nothing I do will make the share folders accessible.  My login credentials are accepted initially and I can see the folders across the network but I can't open any of them.  I've tried to access them locally with smbclient and gnome files but I get the same issues as with the Windows 7 computer I'm trying to access it with over the network.  I've done the smbpasswd thing a few times now, and I went back over the Arch wiki instructions line by line but it's still not working.
