plasma-nm applet, cannot configure mobile broadband

I've installed everything needed to configure a USB 3g modem but I cannot add the actual connection.
In "Connection editor" I click on add - mobile broadband and I can see my ZTE modem in that list, but when I click Next the window disappears and nothing happens.
Same thing happens If I choose "Any GSM Device" or "Any CDMA Device".

I know it's really late, but I stumbled across this thread multiple times and... for me it works after I installed this package:

mobile-broadband-provider-info

try this

systemctl start ModemManager.service && systemctl enable ModemManager.service
