Thanks in advance.

Same thing here. Strangely it worked perfectly up until a few days ago.... not sure if an update broke it or something...? Any suggestions how to fix it?
Also, I've just started (since yesterday!) having krunner issues. ALT+SPACE doesn't bring up krunner (yes, the shortcut is configured) eventhough krunner is running. From a terminal if I killall krunner ; krunner& ALT+SPACE and krunner work perfectly??! Any ideas?
EDIT: I've just noticed @Teyras' post - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 8#p1507308. Not at home; going to try it tonight and see if it works for me. Will report back.
EDIT 2: @Teyras' solution worked for me too! Thanks!

No, I have not seen this one but I've observed two other graphical glitches:
-Hovering over the icons in System Settings renders ~1 frame a bit off (have not taken precise screenshots to see exactly how, but you can see it kind of jump a little)
-Switching between menus on the classic start menu renders ~1 frame that has the menu shorter than it should be by around 2-3 menu-items, this has the effect of looking like the menu has a hole there.
While I have not noticed the glitch with the start menu I believe the System Settings glitch is exactly like the one I'm experiencing. I deffinetly see a graphical glitch while hovering above an icon in the System settings and it looks like the one I described. Perhaps the way the glitch can be described is exactly rendering one frame misplaced.

Clearing ~/.cache and ~.config/kdeglobals didn't fix the logout problem for me. Did this solve both issues for you, or just the krunner one?

Consistently every few hours, plasmashell starts using 100% CPU, until I shut it down manually.
When I start it back up again (by simply running plasmashell) the taskbar margins are wrong (too big) and the margins around the plasma menu on the desktop are also wrong (the three vertical bars are misplaced).
I found a way to get shortcuts in Kate/Kwrite into a working state:
-In system settings shortcuts: set them all to default, then set them to whatever they were before then back to default again (repeat until no more warnings about conflicting assignments are shown AND no secondary shortcut is set) leave on default. (This takes a long time as it often won't "stick")
-Do the same in Kate or Kwrite
-In system settings shortcuts: press use default.
This WILL destroy any settings you set up previously, and also many of the good defaults that were set in KDE from start (like CTRL+left/right to move in text) will be gone, but now at least simple things like CTRL+C works in Kwrite...

I can't see why Plasma 5 is recommended in the official news channel, for who's benefit, users or developers in need of beta testers?

It was supposed to be a smooth transition. As always, reality is nothing like the plans.

I suspect that Arch is a bit of a corner-case. Most people will probably install a fresh distro with Plasma 5 built-in rather than expect a smooth transition as we do.

I doubt it. Plus, half of the fault is on the KDE side, which did advertise better compatibility.
No, this is not KDEs fault. The dev of plasma said several times, if you want a stable experience, wait for plasma 5.4.

Hi guys,
Yesterday I saw I had a problem with my GPT partition and my btrfs partition. So I decided to backup my data and reinstall.
I wanted to install arch + KDE Plasma 5. It will be stable? An alternative can be to install openbox alongside KDE to keep a working stable workstation.
But my problem is that I don't know nothing about Openbox.
So I decided to install ArchBang!, an openbox minimal archlinux installation that have a lot of favorable opinions over the net.
And only then I installed Plasma 5.
Now I have a very stable system that works very well in KDE!
Konsole, Kate, Gwenview, bluetooth, NetworkManager, Pulseaudio, Vlc, Activity works well.
Only a few issues:
- The dropbox client doesn't appear in the system tray (but Mega, Spideroak and Synology do)
- The Insync icon is present but invisible in the system tray
- No dolphin, I use SpaceFM from openbox.
- No yakuake
- No quickaccess applet
All the rest is ok.
I hope this thoughts can be useful someone.
I love archlinux: the last STABLE kernel release + the last STABLE DE release + the last STABLE apps releases. The upstream developers decide what is STABLE.

Care to share a link (or several)?

You could get dolphin-git from aur and use that. Last time I tried, modifying the dependencies to not use the -git versions worked fine.
- No yakuake
I am using yakuake just fine on my plasma5 install? You have to install it first, of course.
Speaking of dolphin-git, anyone else has a problem with setting folder icons with it? The changes don't seem to stick.

If I had one, yes. But I don't know exactly, where I read it and the one source, where I think I read it only keeps articles, that are not older than 1 1/2 months and the articles I'm thinking of are definitely older than that. Or it was one, that was published several times. Dunno.

Too many dependencies for dolphin-git, it's ok and very good yakuake-frameworks-git!
Thank you!!

Just tweak the PKGBUILD and use stable baloo instead of a git version, and suddenly all those dependancies disappear. I haven't noticed any problems as a result of not using git version of baloo.

I confirm that in the last version of dolphin-git you cannot change folder icons.

Perfect! Thank you Xabre! And Soukyuu!

Just to be sure; are you using it with a "tweaked" PKGBUILD or with the rest of the -git dependencies? I'm suspecting that's what might be triggering it.

What version is Dolphin reporting for you guys that are having icon issues? I'm on 14.12.3 and I just changed one of my folder icon... Or am I just missing the conversation point?
Offline
I think they're talking about KF5 version from git, not the stable 14.12.3 version.

Yes. The stable version is fine, the KF5 one doesn't seem to be.

In my case, Plasma 5 seems stable enough for daily use (web browsing, Youtube, music, videos, you know). It has its quirks and downs, like several Kwin graphical glitches or strange and crazy desktop behaviour (my desktop icons started to traverse the screen side to side like drunk chimps under certain circumstances -mouse right click-). Sometimes, the background picture reverts to the default one, and my desktop options too (from Folder View with icons to Desktop with no icons). A pain in the ass if you ask me, but I can handle it for the time being.

Google Chrome and Chromium got stuck for some time before start.
The problem is because it looks for "org.kde.kwalletd" dbus service but new kwallet provides the only "org.kde.kwalletd5".
I've fixed it by used PKGBUILD for kwallet-git and updated the source code like this:
diff --git a/src/runtime/kwalletd/kwalletd.cpp b/src/runtime/kwalletd/kwalletd.cpp
index c40289a..bcb8291 100644
--- a/src/runtime/kwalletd/kwalletd.cpp
+++ b/src/runtime/kwalletd/kwalletd.cpp
@@ -131,6 +131,8 @@ KWalletD::KWalletD()
(void)new KWalletAdaptor(this);
// register services
+ QDBusConnection::sessionBus().registerService(QLatin1String("org.kde.kwalletd"));
+ QDBusConnection::sessionBus().registerObject(QLatin1String("/modules/kwalletd"), this);
QDBusConnection::sessionBus().registerService(QLatin1String("org.kde.kwalletd5"));
QDBusConnection::sessionBus().registerObject(QLatin1String("/modules/kwalletd5"), this);
This registers both kwalletd and kwalletd5 services so chrome starts immediately. Moreover now Chrome use KWallet as a password and form data backend.
Does anyone know a better solution?
