Re: Arch derivatives ; the wall.

This thread is turning into so much TIL.  I've always had a fear of washing my usb flash drive when I put my jacket in the wash.

Re: Arch derivatives ; the wall.

the reason i use arch instead of a dir. is for two reasons. one actually makes sense, and the other is just.... yeah. the first reason is because i like building it from the ground up myself. alot of the dir. pre build it, and i think thats great for people that like arch but dont wanna spend the time doing it themselves. kinda spits in the arch way though. and the second is the community, just being able to say i use arch. i dunno second one is kind of lame. the only dir. i'd probably use is parabola. cause it just replaces the kernel with the libre one right?

I've carried a flash drive on my keychain for a long time, comes in handy in all kinds of situations. I simply partition off a couple of Gb at the end and install Arch to it. Main partition is NTFS for use wherever.

Is this process documented anywhere? I also always carry an Arch USB Flash Drive with me, but it is installed with "dd", so the device isn't recognized on Windows. But it would be super awesome to use it as a Swiss army knife (Arch + storage).

No. They replace, add and modify all sorts of things, see e.g https://wiki.parabola.nu/Repositories . In other words, they're not excempt from the "Arch support ONLY" rule.

oh, i thought they just replaced the kernel and only provided free software. i can do that on arch myself, so im not going anywhere.
