I have no problems with Numix gtk theme, Unity looks great with it.

Thanks everyone works great and much easier to install than it was last year. I owe you a beer

Has anyone found a Theme that works fine with unity on arch?
I would like the ambiance theme with different colors.
There is a couple of these on gnomelook.
However i always end up having glitches, such as radiobuttons disappearing, or selected folders with weird colors.
I've had no issues with these themes here. They're designed to work under the same GTK version of Ubuntu. Although, I much perfer the dark versions.
I think I know enough to know I don't know enough.

I believe someone made a Github repository with patched version of (for example) gnome-terminal and gedit to make them work with Unity again, but I can't find it.
Can somebody link me it?

Both work perfectly fine for me. Have you tried running them recently?

Well they run fine yes, they just look horrible since GNOME somewhy adds it's own window decorations. Well Gedit looks horrible, and gnome-terminal just doesn't have it's menu bar integrated in the system bar.
Also, could you remove pidgin-libnotify-ubuntu from the repositories? It's dependency perlxml is unavailable since February this year so we can't install it.

Ah, I think that you're after the gtk3-noforcedcsd package, available from the AUR. I have no idea how feasible it would be to combine its patches with the Ubuntu gtk3 patches.
One alternative is to use the Mate equivalents, Pluma and mate-terminal.
EDIT: Here is the GTK3-noforcedcsd github page. WebUpD8 might also provide some helpful information.

You might want to read the comments on that package before recommending it...

Ah. Yes I think I got a bit ahead of myself. That package isn't working and the GitHub hasn't had an update in seven months...
Sorry.

Yes i've seen other packages like that, but none of them really fix it. However there was a Github repository which fixed individual applications, like Gedit and gnome-terminal. I just can't find it
BTW who here owns the Unity-for-Arch repositories?

Chenxiaolong. The OP of this thread.
I do wonder though, why not use the Mate forks of these packages? They're still on GTK2 and I haven't noticed any lack of features.

No reason, I just like the idea of using the same applications for those tasks that Ubuntu uses. I might however switch to the Mate equivalents like you suggested.

I see that Gnome 3.16 is now in the stable repos.... is it safe to upgrade, or does 3.16 break Unity?

So I managed to completely screw up my Unity setup.
First Lightdm wouldn't launch after an update, now I got that fixed. However now compiz fails to load "unityshell", I have a feeling this has something to do with settings or something, but i'm not sure.
How do I completely reset Unity back to it's default settings without wiping my home folder in the process?
"unity-tweak-tool --reset-unity" doesn't do it. Neither does this.

I'd try a new user first to make sure nothing's gone wrong outside of your configs. Otherwise, I think you'll either have to remove the Compiz folders in your home directory, I think there's one in ~/.local/share/ and ~/.config/.
Failing that, Dconf is used to store a lot of compiz options. You could try resetting them or removing them for repopulation.
I'd give more usefull details but I'm on my laptop with Plasma and Mate.

Tried that, sadly same result.
Even reinstalled now with a clean home folder (so the home folder would be created when adding the user to the system), still same result.
I've installed Cinnamon for now to at least have a working DE.
The thing is, it works perfectly fine on my Laptop (same setup, Arch with Unity), just not on my desktop.

Is your PC running an AMD graphics card? I'm on an AMD with the proprietary drivers and if I launch ccsm from a tty, it shows that the Unity plugin is disabled. then disables it when I tick it. I'm having the same issue now.

No i'm running NVIDIA.Seems to be an fault with some kind of dependency, i'll see if it occurs on my laptop too after I updated it.

The panel of unity does'nt appear since the last update.
Seems that unity is linked with icu 54. I tried to downgrade but nothing change.

Yeah we were talking about the same issue.
Also @Silkworm205, it's not a video driver issue. I had a perfectly working Unity on NVIDIA driver 346.47, and when I updated my system today (except the video driver) it broke Unity.
Afterwards updating to NVIDIA driver version 346.59 didn't fix it either.
Seems that my Unity plugin is disabled in CCSM too, can't enable it either.

Sounds like the packages need re-compiling with the latest libicu. That'll be fun as they need to be done in a certain order if I remember correctly.
On the plus side, I found out Plasma 5 works nicely with the 0.8 series of Compiz when I looked for a backup DE. It even works with the wallpaper plugin!
I think I know enough to know I don't know enough.

Looking at his Jenkins he seems to be working on UnityForArch_gnome-3.16 recently. I've seen a few problem posts about the new gnome. Again.
EDIT: I wish Unity 2D was supported in this repo. Then I could have a lightweight Unity look/work-alike and fallback onto Mate.

As a temporary measure I extracted the package for icu 54.x and copied the files from $PACKAGE/usr/lib to /usr/lib, making sure not to overwrite anything. Now everything seems to 'work'. There's some weird compositing issues I've noticed, but everything runs now.
