xorg-server update conflict loop with xf86-input-evdev

Hello all,

I try to update xorg-server and end up in a loop where xf86-input-evdev is in conflict with xorg-server, but I cannot remove it because xorg-server requires xf86-input-evdev...

archlinux # uname -a
Linux neurarch24 3.17.2-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Oct 30 20:49:39 CET 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
archlinux # pacman -Ss xorg-server
extra/xorg-server 1.17.1-4 (xorg) [installed: 1.15.2-1]
    Xorg X server
<snip>
archlinux # pacman -S xorg-server
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: xorg-server and glamor-egl are in conflict. Remove glamor-egl? [y/N] y
:: xorg-server and xf86-input-evdev are in conflict (X-ABI-XINPUT_VERSION). Remove xf86-input-evdev? [y/N] y
:: xorg-server and xf86-video-ati are in conflict (X-ABI-VIDEODRV_VERSION). Remove xf86-video-ati? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: xorg-server: requires xf86-input-evdev
:: catalyst-utils: requires xorg-server<1.16.0

what should I do?
Thanks!

You need to fully update your system, including taking care of your AUR packages.

Re: xorg-server update conflict loop with xf86-input-evdev

hmmm... I removed all catalyst / ati related packages, and now I get a bit further, but still end up in the conflict loop

archlinux # pacman -S xorg-server
resolving dependencies...
:: There are 6 providers available for libgl:
:: Repository extra
   1) mesa-libgl  2) nvidia-304xx-libgl  3) nvidia-340xx-libgl  4) nvidia-libgl
:: Repository catalyst-stable
   5) catalyst-libgl  6) catalyst-utils-pxp

Enter a number (default=1):
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: xorg-server and glamor-egl are in conflict. Remove glamor-egl? [y/N] y
:: xorg-server and xf86-input-evdev are in conflict (X-ABI-XINPUT_VERSION). Remove xf86-input-evdev? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: xorg-server: requires xf86-input-evdev

so I would use yaourt instead of pacman to update the system?

Yaourt is never the answer to this sort of question.

Remove any AUR packages, do a full -Syyu upgrade and then reinstall the AUR packages.

Not a Pacman issue, moving to NC...

NC? If I don't know everything, I'm considered as a newbie, ok...

The description for NC says "Beginners' subforum for general Arch issues. Please consult the excellent Arch wiki and web before posting."
Your problem - not having the system fully updated - fits my idea of a newbie error. Basic issues belong to NC.
