How can I block certain sites from the whole system (i mean not just in the browser)?
I want to prevent my little sister from seeing some sites, for example, w w w . p o r n . c o m.
I have no experience with firewalls or the like. Im not sure if what I actually need is a firewall.
P.S. I am using Opera (because it is fast and does not crash!)

Edit /etc/hosts and add lines in for each site you wish to block. This is commonly used to block advertisements.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file
eg, append a line like one of these:
0.0.0.0 pagead.googlesyndication.com
0.0.0.0 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
0.0.0.0 adservices.google.com
0.0.0.0 www.porn.com
But yeah. <insert typical message about filtering not being the best way, it's best for someone to keep an eye on what your sister is up to> Filters cant block everything.

better yet.
Set those sites to a loopback address..like..
127.0.0.50
Setup a webserver on your local box to listen on that ip with a simple page like "WTF do you think you are doing!?"
Then you will have a record of the request in the webserver logs as well... you can say, "dude. sis. you tried to go to badsite.com 5 times yesterday!"
*roll up newspaper*

I think content filtering would be a better solution than blacklists. There is a nice article about setting up content filtering with iptables + squid + dansguardian: http://software.newsforge.com/software/ … 1209.shtml.
