Hi!
I have a minor issue since the last time I updated, I used to be able to drag and drop an image from a folder into the desktop and then a little box would pop up, giving me the option to set said image as a wallpaper, now that box just won't appear anymore.

Does anybody use desktop grid effect? Entering to preview of desktops is very jerky, exiting is then smooth and other kwin effects are smooth too. Using nvidia blob

Same here.

I noticed a performance regression on Plasma 5.3 with the nVidia blob, when using a 120Hz monitor. Before 5.3, with Vsync on, my FPS with Kwin where always above 100 (using the Kwin "not a benchmark" fps benchmark). Now, on Plasma 5.3, my fps are above 100 only if Vsync is off. With Vsync on (regardless the vsync mode) it drops to ~ 52 fps. On a GeForce 980 GTX card.

Well with nouveau it's ok

I reported this bug about Desktop grid and present windows being unresponsive to keyboard presses (after changing monitor layout).
Has anyone else had this or can test it?

Yes, some problem here.
Intel HD4000 on Samsung series 9
I use XRender as workaround

I don't have problem with grid but with "show desktop" option. When i do that desktop shows but not completely since at corners there are some "leftovers" of windows. They are transparent. When i do show desktop again all windows correctly appears. Anybody experiencing this?
I have intel 4500 GMA.

@AdrianoM: Could you add a comment/vote on the buglist to give it some attention?

I have intel 4500 GMA.
They changed the show desktop function. Go back a few pages in this thread where we mentioned this.
If you want it to work the way it used to work before, there's a kwin script you can enable that gives you a new global keyboard shortcut function called "Minimize All".

I'm not seeing any fps text, only the "not a benchmark" message. How do you read that graph, or is something messed up on my side?
Tried switching to nouveau from nvidia and it's pretty much as sluggish. The splash screen animation isn't smooth at all, and the menus sometimes stutter instead of getting animated fluidly. 260GTX

Dunno if the KF 5.10 update caused it (reverting doesn't fix it) but if I open any program from the application launcher, open file dialogs do not appear and the program freezes. (ex, open kate -> open file doesn't give me a filepicker dialog but it is still going uninteractable as if it had a child window). I have to xkill anything stuck like this.
This only happens with the plamashell created during startkde. If I kill it and restart it, open file dialogs work. If I open a program from Icon Tasks or KRunner, dialogs work. If I open programs on the terminakl file dialogs work. Its so bizzare but its reproducable every restart. Is there anywhere I can get the logging of that first plasmashell to try to see whats happening? It's already disturbing enough to watch a fresh plasmashell throw out hundreds of errors about malformed QML or null pointers on startup...
I can confirm this. Did you report that yet?
edit: oops, double-posted, sorry.
edit2: it appears the issue solves itself if I press the escape key when it's frozen, then "save as" will work as usual.

I can confirm there is slight FPS drop in the indication. It may only be in this "Show FPS" effect. There is other way to monitor FPS in KDE?
With the latest updates i have ~51-52 FPS with VSync enabled. Nvidia with the 349.16 driver. Last time i check (KF 5.2) it was 60, just right with my monitor. This is with Option "TripleBuffer" "1" in the xorg.conf. Without it, KDE not honor the "Automatic" set for the VSync.
I do some tests now, i remove TripleBuffer from xorg.conf and restart.
system boots up with 70-72 FPS - noticeable tearing
change VSync from Automatic to Never = 60-61 FPS - noticeable tearing, expected
change VSync from Never to Automatic = 51-52 FPS - no tearing
In my fight with the screen tearing i read many recipes, but the only one that works for me was switching the TripleBuffer on. Seems like there is a hard time for KF 5 to apply the compositor settings automatically on login.
edit: @Soukyuu, try to change the colors for the "Show FPS" the FPS indicator is on upper right corner on the first square.

I tried all kinds of colors, alpha settings and text positions. this is all I'm getting =/
And there is definitely a huge performance drop for me, I can't use mpv at my current settings anymore, the playback is jerky. Switching to something like openbox introduces tearing, but works more fluid. Both for ouveau and nvidia blob.

Using the latest Plasma packages, I have a few annoying problems:
-If I change the layout of my desktop icons to the right, they keep moving themselves to the left under certain circumstances. Sometimes, they switch sides in an animated way.
-If I unlock widgets in order to add new plasmoids, and click in "Obtain new...", my desktop reverts to default configuration. I can replicate this behaviour at any time.
-Sometimes, for example when adding the plasmoid Folder View to desktop, it just vanishes. Switching between Folder View or Desktop in Desktop preferences let me see the added Folder Views in the background for 1 second.
I'm starting to find Plasma 5 really unstable, and that frustrates me, since it's my favourite desktop environment. But I cannot wait eternally for stability.

Tab "Advanced" in "Mouse controls" section in System Settings doesn't work.
In Mate Desktop I removed libinput to make mouse acceleration changebale with system control center or with:
xset m 1 1
But in Plasma kwin requires libinput.
Creating file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-mouse-acceleration.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "My Mouse"
MatchIsPointer "yes"
Option "AccelerationProfile" "-1"
Option "AccelerationScheme" "none"
EndSection
doesn't help too.

I solved this, it is caused by this bug (workaround inside).
Is chromium being a pain in the a- erm, ignoring kwin rules to always start chromium on first screen and maximized (using "apply initially") for anyone? I have defined my left monitor as primary, but it sometimes starts on the right one instead.

I just installed plasma 5.3 today and I have to say it's a lot more stable/usable than plasma 5.2 was.
Not a single crash yet and everything is working very smoothly for me.
Thanks.

Has anyone noticed a problem with the show desktop widget in plasma 5.3 (definetly came after the latest update to Plasma and the kde frameworks) where instead of minimizing all open windows (like it previosly did and i think it should) the show desktop widget hides all windows and the panel and literlly only the desktop is visible. Is there a way to return the behavior of this widget to the older behavior where it simply minimizes all windows?

I'm curious about that too, is there a way to minimize windows by showing the desktop?

Yes, there is a window script that allows you to set a shortcut to minimize all windows. In 5.3.1 the widget will be restored to its previous state.

You mentioned that, I installed plasma 5 for about two weeks. For me, some background process crashed quite often. Sometimes I can restart that crashed process and sometimes I can't. And I don't know if it just me or someone else has this problems, sometimes the screen is broken like crazy after startup, everything looks like broken glasses that every pieces of those glasses are moved randomly when mouse moved or keyboard typed. That crazy screen seems happens randomly, sometimes it didn't happen after reboot sometimes it happen.
I can not googled this issue since I don't know what is official name of this crazy screen bug thing. But, i still use kde plasma even though it still buggy and unstable because I love it. Really, really love it

I have a problem that looks very similar, but I'm still on KDE4. I think that it could be a VGA issue (mine is Mobility Radeon HD3470 with open source drivers) rather than a Plasma problem. It happens so seldom and so randomly that I never tried to investigate or report a bug.

I don't know, KDE Frameworks 5 and the new Plasma have been pretty stable for me lately. The first month or so after they were uploaded to the main Arch repository they were still rather unstable (though nowhere near what KDE 4.0 was) but they seem pretty stable now.

Thanks, that's good to know. If they're going to fix it in the next point release I'll just wait until then.

Try ~/.local/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/
Is there anything I have to change to make the services work? I've put them into the directories, but they're not active - services config does not show them either.
