You mean you don't have the title, or you don't have the border at all? If you can drag resize or drag move windows than its the former. Search for window decorations and try swapping decorations types or if you are on Breeze it might just be in the button list to readd. If its the later...

If you are starting Plasma with startkde, this can happen, some parts of the SOLID framework KDE uses depend on having a login manager to do session management. If you are using SDDM, this might be related to the previous problem - kwin might be crashing at startup, if you don't have any window decorations, that is whats happening. Kwin logs to journald, so you can check your journalctl if its crashing. If it is search for the specific error its generating.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hi Zanny,

thx for the reply but kwin is present.
I have the window decoration, just the titles are missing (the text). I have shadows and the close buttons for example smile

I switched form KDM to SDDM.

Sry i guess i could have added more information in my initial post.

Greetings

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Does anyone experience higher CPU usage after sometime of running plasmashell?
It simply slows down. Widget moving lags etc. Restarting plasmashell makes it go away but after some time it comes back again.
Someone before me wrote to change OpenGL to EGL.
It makes my screen freeze sometimes so I went back to GLX.

Disable any real time updating performance counter plasmoids (cpu / disk / network io monitors). They have a CPU leak.

Yep I know that default ones had memory leaks. Im using kde-look.org ones though(Resource Monitor, Network Monitor). Ill try to disable them and test. Thanks

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I have a laptop and a monitor. I would like the monitor to display a max resolution desktop if plugged in (and the laptop LCD to switch off) and the laptop LCD to display the desktop if the monitor is not there. KDE4/Kwin was doing exactly this, it asked, a new monitor has been plugged in, bam, expanded or contracted properly, no problems. KDE5/Plasma/SDDM doesn't ask and just gets confused over the situation: the resolution change works (xrandr not broken) but for eg the panel goes away or the windows don't accept input etc. Any easy remedies?

In general the new name choice is exceptionally stupid because it's impossible to Google it.

Not sure if there is an easy way to make the laptop LCD switch off when an external display is connected, but you can have it as a lid close action. You'd want to use the display KCM to overlay both screens while on, make the notebook screen the default display, and set in energy saving that the lid close action is to turn off the display.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Sure, that's the easy part. But when I undock how I get the desktop not confuse itself to hell while it resizes itself?

Altogether, this software feels very premature to be honest sad

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

The disappearing panel and most of the confusion is a crash in Qt 5.4.x. It was supposed to be fixed with 5.4.2 but as you can see it still happens. Next possible version where it will be fixed seems to be Qt5.5
So it's out of the hands of KDE devs at the moment.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I'm using dolphin-git from AUR since I couldn't locate a KF5 version in the repositories. With this, the "Create New" menu when rightclicking only has one option: "Link to Device". I *really* miss the possibility to create folders without opening a terminal. Is there an additional package one needs to install? I have been unable to locate a bug on the KDE bug tracker for this, and I would assume would be quickly located since it is an integral part of a file manager.

There is a pach applied on top of Qt 5.4.2 which makes Qt behave a bit more sane. However, monitor switching troubles still persist with the current Qt 5.5 RC snapshot, see https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-44158. I personally consider this to be a blocker for Qt 5.5 but who knows what the devs think. - it's currently not on the blocker list https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-44654.

If someone is brave, there is a patch for Qt 5.4. which is supposed to get rid of the current issues - one could rebase it to Qt 5.5 and check if things finally work (https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/110812/)

You need this package from aur: dolphin-plugins-frameworks-git

I tried to install that package and delete my .kde4 folder, but I still do not have any options of value in the "Create New" menu. Is there any other folders/config files I need to reset for this to work?

EDIT: On the off chance that konqueror might work I installed konqueror-frameworks-git from AUR and now have all the options I need in both dolphin and konqueror.

Replace the png file in the theme folder
/usr/share/ksplash/Themes/*/images/background.png

Use qtcurve-git from the AUR. That one will have the settings working correctly.

EDIT: You need to remove the 'kdebase-workspace' dependency in its PKGBUILD.

is not possible use the ksplashrc file? (to preserve the changes when update the package)

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hello, I'm having issues using the connect/disconnect buttons on the nm app on Plasma. I have to look for a "sweet spot" so the button stops being transparent and allows me to click.

SDDM is also having at login. My default shell is ZSH. I thought this was fixed a couple of months ago.

EDIT: I guess the commit that fixed the clash with zsh hasn't been pushed out to the Packages so I used the sddm-git from the AUR and it works great now.
