Is there a way to put all traffic over an interface through a SOCKS proxy in a way that isn't desktop environment dependent or application specific?
My company just set it up so we need to use a SOCKS proxy for everything and I can get it working system-wide on my Windows install, but not on Linux. I see that systemd-socket-proxyd exists, but given that I have very limited knowledge of proxies in general and the wiki page on proxies doesn't mention systemd at all. Is this at all possible or am I misunderstanding the use cases for systemd-socket-proxyd?
Thanks in advance.

I do not know the answer to your question -- sorry. As a moderator, I am compelled to ask as to whether this is permitted (or prohibited) by your company's computer use policy? What did your IT department have to say about this?

Official policy is that I'm supposed to use the Windows machine that they provide me. However, my company is pretty lenient on that rule and IT does know that I run Arch most of the time. We're a very small software development company and I feel much more comfortable developing on Linux than I do on Windows and our product is cross-platform for Windows and Linux anyway. So I was told that this is alright as long as I support it myself rather than expecting the IT dept to solve problems for me, which is why I've been using Windows since the change; the IT department will support me on Windows and I can continue working while I solve the issue to get me back onto the OS I'd like to use.

Fair enough. Thanks.
