Took me a whole day from initial install. Very happy with it For those wondering, the font is Fira Mono which has all the font awesome glyphs for use in the status bar, dmenu, and wherever else.

I have a quick question...I need unicode support, which I understand I can only get by using the xft or pango patch...But the text on the status bar starts from the very top of the status bar instead of being centered when I do so. Is there a fix for this?

DWM desperately needs more fluidity to its interface. The interface is a little too rigid in my view. More tiling options and a little more intuitive tiling schemes are needed. AwesomeWM does feel more fluidic and comfortable.

dwm does what it does exceptionally well (it inspired Awesome and Xmonad, among others). There are patches on the suckless wiki for additional titling modes, but if you feel comfortable with Awesome, just use that.

It sounds like you desperately need more fluidity. I'd recommend some prune juice

dwm in my opinion is the perfect sa window manager. It's nothing more, or less than exactly what you want. To add functionality, all one needs do is apply patches from the dwm website: http://dwm.suckless.org/patches/

There you will find all the additional layouts, and customizations you can imagine. One word of advice though...don't make the same mistake I did; don't install the "pertag" patch if you plan on installing additional layouts...just don't do it. Anyway....here's my clean little desktop....I mean....root window.

I've finally switched from Openbox, but still running Debian Testing though. Thanks to Semirix I now appreciate the beauty in the useless gaps, and I also took that FiraMono font approach, until I find one with better glyphs (Fira doesn't have a glyph for Ethernet cables, for example).
There's a strange behaviour when using statuscolors: a lot of space is wasted (most notably at the end of the status bar) and I have not yet realized why.
The thumbnails link directly to the full-res image.

Can you elaborate on that? I've used pertag with grid and bottom stack layout for years now and never had a problem with it.

Did you? I couldn't get it to build. I'm not a coder, so I don't know how to use the information in the rej file. (truth be told, I've not given it a lot of effort) The page on suckless.org even says the bottom stack patch isn't for use with the pertag patch. That's another reason I've not given it the effort it may deserve. Were you able to get it to build without any intervention, and have you tried it with 6.1?

Usually all the patches you can find online are patched against vanilla. Meaning, if you apply one patch, you'll have to apply others manually.

do you mean that you have to actually add stuff from the patch.diff file manually to the appropriate files within the source?

Yes. While it may look scary, it's actually trivial. The diff file shows you the line numbers and what you have to add/remove.
