@jasonwryan I sincerely think it's a hardware/kernel question.
Offline
Sure you do, but you haven't done anything to convince anyone else here of that...
Have you worked through the troubleshooting section of the ALSA page?

Yes I did.
And as I said I tried loading the the drivers manually using diffrent models (laptop, laptop-hp, ...) in the the modprobe conf.
And as you can see in the output of alsa-info.sh there is no valid sound card:

What does lspci say about your card?

First thing I would do is upgrade to 3.19.3...

ok I'll do that. and I will even try to compile the latest kernel, and update the thread.

OP is not the only person with this problem. I would indeed recommend upgrading the kernel to see what happens. I am in fact quite interested in the result as well. Slightly offtopic, does the webcam work?
If a kernel upgrade doesn't work, you'll probably have to contact the alsa guys and file a bug report somewhere (but probably someone's already working on it - Broadwell very recent hardware and this system looks fairly stardard).
Edit: ah yes, there is already a kernel bugreport

Yep, the webcam works just fine.

Hello! Can you tell me about the work of any Linux on your HP Spectre? I really want fully linux compatible laptop.
What works? What doesn't works? Microphones, suspend/resume, hibernate, Touchpad(and gestures), Touchscreen(multitouch), Fn-keys, HDMI sound?
Latest kernel has helped you?
Notebook have single-channel memory or dual? How long does it work?

Any recent thoughts on this issue? I rather like my new Spectre x360, but I'm only a couple days away from my 30-day return window now, and I don't think this laptop is going to work so well for me without sound..
If I'm really happy with this machine, otherwise, should I hang onto it? ... Is it clearly the case that HP needs to release a bios patch to resolve this issue? Or do we think it's something the community can resolve ?

Anything new?
There was a guy on the HP forums that got it to work by adding a parameter for GRUB to pretend something was Windows (I believe). I would just copy/paste it to try it out, but I have systemd-boot, and I can't for the life of me find the right config file.
Link for HP forum post: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-P … -p/4980797
For clarification, my issue is exactly as others have described for the HP Spectre x360 and the XPS 13 (because it uses the same sound component). Alsamixer is only able to play audio through HDMI, not through the internal speakers or the audio jack.
The output for lspci is:
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Audio Controller (rev 09)

Yeah,
the internal speakers are finally available after appending the following in to kernel command line:
acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi='!Windows 2013' acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'
For me using gummiboot to boot my Spectre on UEFI mode it took to add the line in to end of the options line in /boot/EFI/loader/entries/arch.conf .
Took a bit fiddling to set speakers as default audio output after unmuting them and setting volume levels, but now it works fine.
Thanks, bothynus.
I actually tried that before, but thought that having the acpi_osi twice on the line was a mistake and dropped the 2012 parameter off which didn't lead into working speaker outputs so those both acpi_osi entries are there for a reason.

Thanks, I found my config file. It was /boot/loader/entries/arch.conf. I swear I had checked every directory in the /boot partition, but I guess I missed that one.
I am appending that now, and I will be rebooting to test...
It worked. I had to put the line of code you mentioned after "options" and before the "root=" section. I don't know why that mattered, but I tried two cold reboots trying it with the line of code at the bottom of the file, and then I tried two cold reboots with it before the "root=", and it was only after the 4th reboot total that it worked. The only reason I knew to do this was because I went back to the link I mentioned earlier, and that was how his full line of code was structured.
