They're useless since plasma 5.4: if clicked, nothing happens...

I have  the exactly opposite problem: in the history tab both recent applications and documents are shown, but I can clear only recent apps. Recent documents have to be cleared by manually deleting everything in ~/.local/share/RecentDocuments/

Yes, i'm having that problem too. Moreover, my mouseclick on any of recent documents won't do anything...

I do wonder what's different about my setup that it doesn't happen to me. Plasmashell is not even on top of my CPU usage list and only occasionally jumping to 1% CPU. The highest CPU usage in idle is kwin, actually, @5% (which is weird, now that I think of it, since I'm using openGL backend and not XRender, which should use more CPU but is actually using less...)

Something must be wrong. Plasmashell never even shows 1% for me, according to System Monitor.

I had high CPU usage with Plasmashell on 2 different laptops. Until I realized it was a plasmoid that caused it : Weather Widget. I removed it and so far, so good. Maybe you have a buggy plasmoid ?

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I had the plasma cpu usage problem again last week, but I don't know why it's gone now. And it was kactivitymanager, which caused the high cpu usage. Killing it helped til the next login.

WIth the alternative launcher (applications menu instead of application launcher/kickoff) recent documents are working fine...

EDIT: and you can remove recent documents too!

It's a pity that I hate the alternative launcher. Makes the desktop feel so... like a mobile phone.

There's also "Classic menu".
Just right click on launcher and choose alternative.

Windows 95 style... wink
At least with the classic menu I can delete recent documents. Thanks!

Thank you for this guys!
I was getting crazy investigating this and could not find what was slowing Plasma's startup...

Downgrading did the trick.
I tried to run kbuildsycoca5 on the latest kservice, but alas it did not help...

On 2 of my machines, sometimes SDDM won't launch. I have to log to a TTY, type "killall sddm" to make it relaunch itself fine. Sometimes several times in a row. Pretty annoying.

I seldom get the same behaviour: black screen on login, I can bring back SDDM by switching to a tty, "sudo systemctl isolate multi-user.target" and then "sudo systemctl isolate graphical.target". It always worked up to now.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hello,

after upgrade to 15.08.1 version I can't start gwenview with baloo service disabled. Starting gwenview from kosole shows message "Failed to open the database". Starting baloo solve this problem. Does anyone same problem or some workaround how to using gwenview without baloo enabled ?

Thanks.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I don't have  an issue with gwenview running without baloo (thankfully), but I do have some with dolphins.

Somehow when I click on any of the places in the K-menu it opens them with okular..
How do I fix these?

Sometimes ago, there was gwenview-light in AUR with Baloo disabled. There're scripts for builds it in AUR Archive: https://github.com/aur-archive/gwenview-light. As you can see it's for old 15.04 version. According to CMakeLists.txt of Gwenview 15.08.1 this PKGBUILD should work with this version, but you have to change:

pkgver=15.04.0

to

pkgver=15.08.1

and

    -DGWENVIEW_SEMANTICINFO_BACKEND="None" \

to

    -DGWENVIEW_SEMANTICINFO_BACKEND_BALOO=OFF \

or

    -DGWENVIEW_SEMANTICINFO_BACKEND_NONE=ON \

Of course you have to execute:

updatepkg

to change md5sums or replace existing in PKGBUILD with

31efb06b4d328561d58929e64df8cf008f1194ae

After that, you problably can build gwenview with semantic backed disabled.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

PB - thanks for answer.

I have found another solution. I have created baloo database under another (new) user, copy files to my directory (~/.local/share/baloo) and change ownership. Now gwenview working wihtout runnig baloo service with empty DB.

Maybe this workaround help to someone else.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Got 2 question - i installed clean Arch with KDE5 aka Plasma. I don't have
-internet acces
-terminal in gui
-apps like browsers and so on. When i did a full KDE4 install there was plenty of apps, with KDE5 Plasma, don't have at all...any.

What is wrong?

I don't know if this is a plasma or a pulseaudio issue, but when i close my session and i log in again in plasma, pulseaudio is not autostarting anymore.

That's first thing that i did. I have acces to the internet, installed terminal (konsole) and so on but still don't understand why installation of full KDE5 (plasma-meta or kf5) does not install all stuff that was in KDE4 (terminal, or konsole, for an example...).

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

From the Wiki:
" Note: In 2014, the KDE project changed the way it names and organizes itself. The older term KDE Software Compilation was discontinued and the versioning and development cycles of the frameworks and applications were decoupled from the Plasma desktop itself."
