Unable to access virsh...

I can use single commands in the form of:

$ virsh -c qemu:///xxx list --all

I am unable to log in to the hypervisor management console via:

$ virsh connect qemu:///xxx

Polkit-gnome agent authentication dialog pops up and journalctl shows access granted but I am just thrown to a new prompt. Am I missing something?
I am in an i3wm session if that is relevant.
