Hello Everyone! I'm new to the forum and somewhat to Arch Linux, I have been using arch for a few weeks now and it is great so far. However, for some reason, I cannot seem to get my wireless connection speed up to par with my Window OS.
I have Qualcomm Atheros Device 0041 (rev 20) and have installed ath10k_pci from backport so that I at least have some wireless connection. I searched the internet for a while now but I still cannot get the wireless speed up. I am stuck at 1 Mb/s.
This is what I have tried so far -
1) Reinstalling ath10k_pci
2) Disable power management through iwconfig
3) Disable IPv6
By disabling power management, I manage to get 6Mb/s for a little bit, but it will randomly slow down sometime. What is worst is that I use this laptop in three different locations and each location have different connection speed. The speed at my house is pretty high (I can't remember what it is but it is a lot faster than 1Mb/s) but the speed at my workplace and school is about 1Mb/s mostly. That is also pretty confusing as to why there are different connection speed.
Anyway, can anyone help me increase my internet speed so that it is at least close to what it is suppose to be?
Thank you in advance

Welcome to the Arch Linux forum - in case you didn't know you can look on the Arch Wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/ - this is useful to get documentation for how to use the system, also I would also advice you to read this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sysctl#Networking - it maybe that you'll need to adjust sysctl settings for the network. Other's in the forum will be happy to help since everyone has different areas of expertise in some way or another like programming, fixing software's or knowing how certain areas of the system work. Also its good to read the Forum Policy here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Forum_etiquette - and bookmark it since it occasionally might get updated with new ones....

Thank you for the welcome DarkCerberus. I read over the Networking wiki and sort of understand it. I ran
sysctl -a
but I really do not understand what to look.
Is there a way for me to reset the setting just incase I edit the config sometime in the past? I look in
/etc/sysctl.d/99-sysctl.conf
and I only saw one line so does that mean that it is the original config?

I reread over DarkCerberus post and tried
net.ipv4.tcp_tw_reuse = 1
net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle = 1
and it did not help. Other than those commands, I really did not mess with any of the other sysctl command as I do not know what they are or how they will impact my laptop.
I did some Googling and saw the Wicd may help and now is using it. However, it does not increase internet speed.
Some other actions I tried was:
- disabling 802.11n for iwlwifi
- adding
nohwcrypt=1
into my
/etc/modprobe.d/ath10k.conf
None of those commands worked. I am think that it is because Linux does not fully support my wireless card that I am having bad speed. Do anyone know of any commands I can try to help increase my wifi speed by even a little bit?

I am just going to drop this problem. I think I can live with a slow internet speed for now. Googling does not seem to bring up anything new and reasonable for me to try.
This is what I have so far incase someone wants to know what I am running now.
- IPv6 disabled
- Power Management off
- Using WICD as a network manager
What do I put on the thread title to mark it as closed but not solved. I am thinking "[closed]" but the forum etiquette above warned against it.
