I've got the FAAD plugin and libmp4v2, but Quodlibet is still unable to play - or even detect - m4a files. What is going on here?

I've had a ton of Quod Libet problems ever since the .19 upgrade and I still haven't sorted it out. I still can't view/play mp3's either (which worked fine before), and like you, have all the necessary gst plugins. Something weird seems to be up...

It seems that there are some issues with gstreamer 0.10 and quodlibet. I am unsure of the exact issues because it "Works for Me"(TM)
If anyone has more information, please let me know.

I could be dead wrong on this, but I think you might be using deprecated plugins. I think for the current version of quod libet, you need to use the gstreamer0.10-xxx plugin packages, not the older gst-plugins-xxx. Make sure you have gstreamer0.10-faac installed, not gst-plugins-faac.

Nope that isn't the problem... I forgot about this thread, should have labelled it SOLVED. You see, in order to play things other than ogg, mp3, flac, and wav, Quodlibet needs the python-ctypes package from the Community repo. I didn't know about this because nothing whatsoever about python-ctypes is said on Quodlibet's help page.

Hmmm...I installed that package, but I'm still not seeing any support aside from ogg and wav. I'll probably just end up using something else for the time being.

if you're going to try something else, I'd recommend amaroK if you haven't checked it out yet

If he's using Quodlibet there's probably a reason he isn't using amaroK...
(BTW, does it strike anyone as funny that one of the best music players in existance is named after an album by one of the most annoying artists in existance? )

Aye matey, I'd rather not pull all the dependencies for Amarok. I'm sure I'll figure out my Quod Libet problems eventually, but I'll probably switch to something else while I'm doing so...can't go without my music, right?

that arch linux might be so cool that "existance" might be something to consider!
as a last consideration i might recommend xmms. core mplayer works well too! good luck.

XMMS is pure suckage.
MPlayer... well, it definitely works, but it's got one of the ugliest, most annoying interfaces I've ever seen. They really, really need to get rid of the skins and crap.
