Re: KF 5 & Plasma

plasma 5.5.2 (including kwin) is already in extra - devs got this out very fast after the upstream release - possibly some of the issues people are seeing will be resolved with this update. Next update is 5th January - see https://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/Plasma_5

It's possible other issues may be fixed with with the updated mesa/mesa-libgl and kernel update to 4.3. The next frameworks version will be released on 9th January.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Wow, the absolute worst version of KDE EVER!

What were the devs thinking?

Cloning windows 7,8 and ten was a huge mistake!

I will be down grading to 4.5.

If I wanted windows 10 and all the drab stuff that comes with it I wouldn't be running LINUX!

It's better not to start flame wars. The code for plasma is taking time to become stable especially with the journey towards support for Wayland.  However once it is possible to run plasma with wayland instead of X it will be a truly superb desktop environment - and still remains beautifully customisable. The current issues are exposing problems with the graphics drivers so in a sense it is also driving improved performance in the drivers so that existing but previously unexposed bugs in the graphics stack are now being addressed. So whilst it is somewhat frustrating to go through the current problems we are leading the way to a great modern desktop environment - so kudos to all the developers both for plasma as well as the underlying infrastructure software - we will look forward to an excellent 2016 with the new plasma desktop.

If I RMB on the desktop something flash, as it should be the normal appearance, but then it quickly disappear. If I press on/off switch then it will show the message to quit in a normal way.
I disabled almost all of the visual effects.

I was affected by a similar problem.
In my case I found var partition full due to the upgrade. I have separate partition for /var and /var/cache/pacman/pkg contains packages downloaded from repo.
After a

pacman -Sc

all is working

I notice that I can't do a "screenshot" with the key "print screen",

is it normal ?

I notice that ksnapshot program doesn't exist, a new package "spectacle" seems to replace it, maybe it can explain my problem, a bug in this package related to the key "print screen" ?

Yes, it's a bit strange that the application changed and the desktop's global shortcut is made to look or ksnapshot. Does anyone know if spectacle is now the official KDE/Plasma screenshot program and if the global shortcuts now call that command by default (assuming no previous command is configured, e.g., from a fresh install)?

Anyway, I just manually changed the PrintScreen command under Settings > Shortcuts > Custom Shortcuts > Preset Actions > PrintScreen from ksnapshot to spectacle.

EDIT: Never mind. The next post clarifies.

Hi Ambro big_smile
I don't have this affection, I frequently use paccache

$  df -h /var/
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda8 20G 14G 4.8G 74% /

Probably I left out some dependency. But it's hard time for me now, my connection is around 2 kbps.

EDIT
Upgraded without a solution sad mad

EDIT2
Solved smile
But a radical change, by reinstalling without foreigner packages. I saved the cache and the package list.
I reinstalled from a second installation by pacman -r wink
I lost something  in /etc, but now it's  KF 5 & Plasma5

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hi:

I'm still having some problems with my dual monitor setup. SDDM is configured to show at the dual monitor and has a been configured by xrandr on the Xsetup script. This works fine.

Also on Plasma, the dual monitor configuration is the same.

But at login process something crashes (I didn't find any crash log on the journal or message logs) and the desktop shows the mirror dual monitor configuration...

I have a script at login, that again defines the correct monitor configuration but then I have issues with geometry....

Any ideas?  I'm running Nvidia proprietary drivers.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Also, is there an Okular version for plasma 5?  It seems that kdegraphics-okular depends on kscreen4 that might be causing some of the above problems...

@arojas: as noto are now default fonts, is frameworkintegration supposed to depend upon ttf-oxygen?

Same icons are not displayed in the systray.
Localization is incomplete
GTK fonts are too big even I installed breeze-gtk 5.5.2-1 and kde-gtk-config. Setting the fonts at 8, they look 3 times bigger.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

How to remove kde global shortcut? I can't make work binding "alt+shift+v" and others in my application because kde intercepts keybinding. I can't find which application does it. I checked global keyboard shortcuts and didn't find "alt+shift+v" there.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

After some recent update (can't remember which one excactly) I have the issue that maximized windows are too large:
2epizhf.png

The Konsole window on the right is maximized and the tabs at the bottom are cut off.
The window on the left is resized by hand to make it look as it used to.

Any ideas how to fix this?

@Phate666: try set the panel to be always visible. I think that maybe the "windows go below" option might have been incorrectly set.

It was set to "always visible". I changed it to some other setting and then back to always visible, but that didn't help.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Am I supposed to have 64 files in '/' named klauncherZXXXXX.1.slave-socket? Z is a letter and X is a number, example: klauncherT26748.1.slave-socket and klauncherXM1228.1.slave-socket. If I try to open one as root, I get an error:

The file file:///klauncherLhX625.1.slave-socket could not be loaded, as it was not possible to read from it.
Check if you have read access to this file.

I also have a 'dolphinTT4629.4.slave-socket and a kdeinit5__0.

They are junk files made by Dolphin when run as root. You can delete them.
