Just did a small upgrade (8 or 10 packages). I noticed NetworkManager and OpenVPN (I think) and possibly nm-applet updated. I can connect, no problem, and the nm-applet shows me connected to my VPN (PIA)--but when I go to ipleak.net, it's showing my un-vpn'd IP addr.
Any thoughts?
It was fine pre-upgrade as far as I know. (I check it occasionally.)

Does it happen if you connect manually (ie, remove NM from the equation)?

I just thought to try that. When I connect via the # openvpn /etc/openvpn/[name].conf command, everything is fine, ie no leaks. Not sure what that means, but it certainly points to a problem with networkmanager?

Sounds like it. There was a recent vulnerability with OpenVPN leaking data (exactly as you experienced): OpenVPN was patched, better make sure NM was as well...

Looks like others have experienced this?

It's not that it's just leaking, you're not even using the vpn connection as you think it is, just look at the routing table and you will see.
I'm very surprised that upstream didn't catch this before releasing a new version. It seems there is a bug report about this (or very similar) upstream [1] so lets hope things get sorted out quickly.

I'm not sure that OpenVPN is working properly. I haven't looked into it closely, but using a VPN should prohibit my access to certain websites and also prevent me from sending email via Thunderbird. However yesterday I was able to do both. I connect using openvpn (my desktop doesn't even have NM installed), so NM isn't the issue for me. I checked for IP leaks, but didn't find any.

I was also unable to use openvpn using the new package. It said that it was working correctly, the tunnel was there and I had an IP assigned from the server but was unable to properly reach devices on that network. I did not see any errors produced though in the log. Reverting openvpn and networkmanager fixed the connection issue for now.

I'm running into the same exact issue as mentioned by wilberfan. My VPN was working good until the Network Manager update was pushed. Now my real IP leaks and my DNS is still in another country.

I'm also experiencing this problem. But I can't tell if it is a problem with openvpn or nm-cli.
