Yes, I noticed the kernel left testing so I installed today, followed the wiki instructions on grub entry, and everything worked on the first boot flawlessly. Great job!

"Upgraded" from ArchCK to Beyond. Updated my menu.lst and everything is working beautifuly
Thanks for all involved!

Switching from CK to Beyond too, works great with ATI drivers.
Just one weird problem : in console mode the text cursor (carret ?) is invisible, which is pretty annoying in vi

Switched from arch standard kernel to beyond...
Everything is working fine
However, i get one message at startup which i do not understand:
Freeing unused kernel memory: 192k
Initital ramdisk loading modules...
mknod: /dev/null/: File exists
So, what does mknod want from me? And why does it try to
recreate /dev/null?
want a modular and tweaked KDE for arch? try kdemod

Switched to beyond too, working fine so far. However, I'm not noticing any difference. Are there any benchmarks I could run to compare kernels?

Guys, there isn't any real changes from Archck to beyond in the concept of patches except some (nothing to do with benchmarks) patches like the vmware workaround or the way to switch from ck to cks by just editing the config... the real difference is that beyond is kernel 2.6.16 and above( hopefully ! ) which is a work of iphitus and Tiger, while archck stoped developement at 2.6.15 kernel...

I was yawning about that the kernel didn't wanted to boot, "That iphitus can't do anything right"... until I looked at my 'menu.lst', and saw that I missed 'root=/devhda1'. :oops:
Arch - It's something refreshing

Hey, I've never used archck or nitro, so I am wondering what exactly -beyond contains. Also, what's the difference between bootsplash and fbsplah?
Offline
http://iphitus.loudas.com/beyond.html
contains a list of things contained.
fbsplash is a newer setup and is actully maintained unlike bootsplash.

Thanks James
so if I install from the Arch repo, i take it I'm getting fbsplash?
EDIT: Ok, I read mkinitramfs and understand I have to install this separately from community.
How then is the framebuffer set if fbsplash is not installed? Can it be turned off? And can I deactivate other parts of the patchset?
Thanks.

mkinitramfs is in [extra]
vesafb/framebuffer can be configured in mkinitramfs.conf
what do you want to 'deactivate'?

You're right, sorry, I meant I read the makeinitramfs wiki and from there found out that I get fbsplash from extra
I was trying to change the buffer in the makeinitramfs.conf, but the only thing I could find was " fbsplash= " with the preceeding comment saying that this was for setting the buffer of
I didn't see a vesab option in mkinitramfs.conf at all.
What I wish to not use is the suspend update.

unless you configure your system to do so, it isnt using suspend.

I'm like thinking of trying beyond .....
Is/Does Nvidia work & will it break vmware ? (vmware fix I know but...)
Mr Green I like Landuke!

I had to reinstall nvidia, vmware-workstation, and ndiswrapper. I don't remember having to reinstall anything else - probably depends on what modules you have. I'm not sure if you still have to edit vmware-config.pl - the change needed to vmware-config.pl used to be on iphitus website but I don't find it now. If you have a problem with vmware-config.pl just edit it (comment out the return as indicated):
. 'not have the same address space size as your running '
. 'kernel.' . "nn", 0);
}
# return '';
}
}

thanks, I'll re-add the vmware fix. it shouldnt be needed for the packages I have released in extra though.

Is there any reason why beyond2-1 keeps in testing? I guess it should be removed from there in favor of beyond2-2 from extra.

Hi
running beyond now for 2 days. Everything is ok,
but this kernel is not so responsive like the archck.
You could run 2-3 programs with each one eating 100% cpu power
and the system was stil responsive under archck.
I can´t do that with beyond. Everything start to lag.

I have the same problem, does anybody have some kind of solution to this?

I've no idea what happened, but I just upgraded to beyond4 and was able to boot it, at last.
Thanks.

It's there, make sure your cvs is pulled up to date.
The suggestion box only accepts patches.

it's a wierd bug. give mkinitcpio a shot instead of mkinitramfs,
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Con … mkinitcpio
it should work quite a bit better.. and will boot.
as for the aforementioned ATI problems, give the latest update a shot, its got a lot of bugfixes.
