Re: Does anyone know how to create a LAN with arch

Please describe what you want to connect.  I'm not really sure what you mean by "create a LAN" - do you mean a NAS?

If you want to create a local area network, you need to tell us what computers you want to connect, what connectivity they have, and what OSs they're running.  In most cases, if you are connected to the internet, you already have a LAN: if more than one computer is connected to your router, you have a LAN.

But you'd need to do some other configuration to share files between them.  This could be a NAS, but that might be overkill.  If you want it "similar to windows" then you may be interested in Samba, as that is what Windows often uses for sharing files over a local network.

Re: Does anyone know how to create a LAN with arch

So Basically my home has a lot of routers and I want to create a file sharing system between one particular router. I want to have my 500gb hard drive shared with the people on this router. This consists of one Linux Arch Desktop PC (which have the 500gb hard disk and which I want host) and a bunch of windows PC's. And if you can share filies also with my IPad and a number of android phones that would be great smile

You will need to install and configure samba. For the Android devices, look for a Samba or CIFS client app, or something like SyncThing, owncloud or WebDAV. We can't tell you which will suit you best.

You can share any path you want with samba.

Stop being a help vampire. This is your first warning.

"According to some sources" is no benefit to us in helping you, and you do not appear to be applying your own critical thinking to this task. The lack of responses in the last 24 hours is evidence that the community is not going to hold your hand through this -- we have pointed you in the right direction and we encourage you to research, try and iterate your solutions however we will not be doing the work for you.
