Best Tetris for Linux?

I really do enjoy gnometris, but I have to agree that it is the very basic platform; no peice-holding, no fancy effects, and when you press down to drop a peice faster, it drops way too fast! Are there any other Tetris offerings that are better? Perhaps an NES emulator and a tetris rom may be the trick I need?

KDE Games includes KSirtet, which (to me) seems to be a pretty straight forward Tetris clone. Whether you'll like it better than gnometris I can't say of course. Running "pacman -Ss tris" reveals three more options your might want to check out.

I run MS tetris from the windows entertainment pack in wine.

I grew up with that tetris on my first x86 computer, a 486 runnin windows 3.11. It's followed me ever since, through win95, 98, XP and Linux smile

There's also a great (if you have bought the game of course) rom to download for zsnes. It's called super tetris 3 and is a fast-paced japanese tetris game with that little extra.

One thing about KSirtet is that the pieces aren't very randomized.  After a few hundred games, I started to notice a pattern of pieces the game gives me.

Is there any 3D Tetris out for Linux? I remember playing Blockout and Welltris a long time ago.

Another vote for crack-attack. Really great and addicting game.

Re: Best Tetris for Linux?

some ressurection necromancy for this thread

I stopped on vitetris for its simplicity and yet overall finish. Allows to play at speeds up to level 15, then becomes quite impossible.

Re: Best Tetris for Linux?

It's for the NES but I rather like this one: http://www.pineight.com/lj65/

I know it's not native, but "pacman -S nestopia", load the ROM, and you're good to go.

Re: Best Tetris for Linux?

I personally play vitetris, it runs in your terminal so it is less fancy. But then again you can play it within and SSH session!

Re: Best Tetris for Linux?

A little known game, don't remember how I remember about it. Basically, back in like 2000 I found these demo CD type things with loads of random freeware and trialware software on it (before I had internet). One of them had this game called Quadra, I played it quite a bit on my Win95 box. Somehow, later (a year ago maybe) I realized that it was cross-platform, GPL'ed software. I couldn't get it to work though. Now it seems they may have updated it (what?!) recently, and there's a working PKGBUILD of it in AUR too smile http://code.google.com/p/quadra/

Actually, looking at the svn log, it looks like it's been at least somewhat active ever since I first found out about it, dang.

The best one is Super Tetris. OK, it's a abandonware and you need dosbox to run it, but it kick ass.

Did you sign up on the forums just to answer a question that was already answered over three years ago? Please don't necro-bump old threads; they just eat up space.  Anyone looking for a Tetris clone on Arch can easily find and try it.
