Hi Forum.
I´m working on a school where I have set up an fileserver where the students have a /home on... but they are young student and after a week there music to the limit..
Is there an way to setup a quota on each students home, so they can´t have more than 2GB ???

You quota support enabled for your filesystems. This can be done by enabling it in the kernel and recompiling it.
I'm sure it's possible, but I've never done it so I suggest you google a bit. I have a shell account on a computer at college and my ~ is limited to 250MB.

Check this Wiki.
I suggest you document your quota project in a Wiki page so others can use it.

Yup - the funniest thing about this little project is...
first time i did quotaon -uv /home < it said that this option was not supported by this kernel - damn it - hmmm - I restart my server - and did it again and then it works ... So now I´m gonna document that little trick...
I saw your link earliere - and not that good in linux or english "just" to try it.... But thanks very much for your answers - they made me think a litlle more about these things !

By the way...
Do you know if there´s a way to make it work on users in a LDAP...
Does this work as the same way??? But how do I set it up that way?
Do you know anything about that..
1 PC is running fileserver with samba on.
1 PC is running LDAP with home mountet from the other machine??
How do I get quota to work with LDAP´s users (they´re only virtuel?? )

I have now done some searching - and just to be sure...
The quota follows the UID ?????
(no local ID is needed - also virtuel users are bounded by quota??
If some one could give me an answer on that - then my happiness is done.

Maybe it helps if you remove [SOLVED] from the topic title.
I still can't help you with the actual problem though. Still no experience.

Nahh - that´s OK - it is solved ....
After some ekstra study I found the answer - The users follows the UID - no matter what Local users /ldap users - so it is solved
