Unable to connect to WiFis with a password

Whenever I try to connect to wifi with a password, I can't. When I click on on icon, it connects and disconnect in less than 1 second so that there's even no notification about the succ. connection.
When I go to "Edit Connection", I see that WiFi network but with the password left blank at "WiFi security". I enter it manually and try to connect again. This time it's trying to connect for a few seconds but still can't and then I see this:

$ dmesg
[534875.840368] wlp4s0: authenticate with aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22
[534875.846922] wlp4s0: send auth to aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22 (try 1/3)
[534875.848868] wlp4s0: authenticated
[534875.850891] wlp4s0: associate with aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22 (try 1/3)
[534875.859511] wlp4s0: RX AssocResp from aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22 (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=14)
[534875.877362] wlp4s0: associated
[534875.877393] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlp4s0: link becomes ready
[534875.927743] wlp4s0: deauthenticating from aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22 by local choice (Reason: 1=UNSPECIFIED)

Note that on Ubuntu it works fine always.
And on Arch with wicd it also works but I don't like wicd.
Also on Arch with Network Manager it doesn't show a locker icon when WiFi has a password.

I did this but it hasn't helped:

systemctl stop dhcpcd
systemctl disable dhcpcd
sudo systemctl enable netctl-auto@wlp4s0

Re: Unable to connect to WiFis with a password

So what network manager are you using now, if any? We also need your network card. Try inxi -N and post back the output. Wireless networking is well documented, including how to use password authentication of varying types, so perhaps it would help to look through the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … ssociation

Now I'm on xfce. On Gnome 3 Network Manager also worked fine.

Re: Unable to connect to WiFis with a password

I've installed gnome-keyring, now it asks me for passwords when a WiFi requires so but still I can't connect.

I'm a bit confuse as to the current state of your system with so many changes. We still dont have your network card though. You have to type exactly inxi -N for it to show Network devices.

Re: Unable to connect to WiFis with a password

Read the wiki page on wireless and connect manually: you will then get a meaningful error message at the point of failure.

Intel Wireless 3160?? I've never heard of that card. Anyhow, the only way to go is to do what jasonwryan suggested. Good luck with that! smile

Re: Unable to connect to WiFis with a password

When I do this:

    sudo wpa_supplicant -D nl80211,wext -i wlp4s0 -c <(wpa_passphrase "some ssid" "password")

I get

    Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
Failed to open config file '/dev/fd/63', error: No such file or directory
Failed to read or parse configuration '/dev/fd/63'

Any ideas?

Re: Unable to connect to WiFis with a password

Here it is.
The password I've provided was surely correct but it said it wasn't. Note that on Ubuntu once I've tried to connect using wpa_supplicant and had the same error but for another wifi spot. The password was also correct.

Don't use sudo: su to root.
