Strange behavior from usb power hub

Hey,
I have a usb power-hub by belkin, that has 9 extra usb ports on it and usb plug that goes to the computer, and one that goes to the wall for ac. It has recently started to give me trouble, and I am unable to tell if it was from a kernel update or if the hub is simply in the process of dying. I keep my usb mouse and keyboard plugged into it and starting a few weeks ago, after a startup the usb mouse and keyboard appear not to work. If i keep unplugging and re plugging the hub it eventually starts working. I don't think its the mouse or keyboard because they work at startup plugged into usb ports on the computer.  Not quite sure how to investigate this, as I aspect that the hub is probably just dying since I've head it for years.

Any help is appreciated thanks!

Re: Strange behavior from usb power hub

Check your pacman.log and see if you have updated your kernel (most probable culprit) around the time things stopped working.

Re: Strange behavior from usb power hub

Try this: unplug the power wired and the hub wait two minutes and plug all again.

Re: Strange behavior from usb power hub

i'm wondering if this has any relation to the issue i'm seeing here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=212593

the reason i think there may be crossover is because my audio card is part of my docking station, which itself is a usb port replicator thingy... hmmmm.

EDIT: i've solved my problem, but my solution begs me to ask you: are you using any sort of power management system (either TLP or a desktop environment power manager, or something like that)? perhaps the USB autosuspend is being enabled by your power manager, and suspending the USB hub, which causes things plugged into it to stop working.
