Laptops which run Arch

Can anyone recommend a cheap laptop in the UK that runs Arch? Less than £300

I forgot how horrible it is looking for laptops, I'm fed up of reading "Windows 10"

I'm not interested in dual booting, it just needs to run Arch but I must be sure it will work as I can't use Windows, it doesn't do anything that I need an OS to do. Some kind of working integrated graphics would be nice to play basic/old games. Also not interested in anything with these tiny 32gb drives that are designed to store everything on cloud someone else's computer.

Second hand thinkpads from the x200-x220 or t420 range, done. Nothing else comes close. (No, really, any other suggestion is bad.)

It's a bit clunky, but as a temporary workaround i have re-mapped the screen brightness keys using xbindkeys and xdotool.

On my Asus n752vx, the brightness keys seems not to work (I've tried to use them after a journalctl -f and no message arrive when I use the brightness keys. If I use the volume one a lot of messages appear and the volume is correctly modified).
Is there something I can do?
May it be related to the need to add some option to the kernel boot parameters?

Everything works except the "rainbow" lighted effects on the keyboard. The keyboard does light up with the plain white lights that are all I need. (hmm, do we really need lighted kb's?)

The wifi took some work, but wasn't a big deal and is very fast and stable. Everything else just works!

UEFI Arch install on GPT partitioning scheme. (came with Win 10 Home, wiped immediately)

This laptop has a sub-woofer in the bottom of it and I've never heard a better sounding laptop. You really can listen to and enjoy your music on it!

This is a latest/greates piece of hardware that Arch runs beautifully on! I do not dual boot it as Arch is the only OS I use. I have no idea how it would be as a dual boot machine. If your capable with Arch, then you'd love this laptop!

My other Arch laptop is a Toshiba N100 Netbook.

Just registered and wanted to thank you on the guide. Awful Win10 machine (did the USB backup) but brilliant for Arch. Everything worked out of the box but the touchpad too sensitive for me, installed Synaptic drivers - much better.

It's hard to judge battery life so far, full charge is something like 14 hours. Currently at 59% still over 9 hours. I've turned down backlight to 2000, probably can live with 1500. So far the ram has not been an issue but I'm running a light system - i3, terminals, & a browser. I have no swap so I'm crossing my fingers on that. A few random freeze from sleep (opening lid), could be lack of swap? Or it could be my endless tinkering with config files and systemd setups at this point. Still need to blacklist rtsx_usb_ms.

IMO, the best laptops have a point of view. This Acer is perfect for my needs, long lasting battery and fanless. Thanks again for the guide.

Lenovo ThinkPad T440. Everything except the fingerprint reader works perfectly; the fingerprint reader sometimes works but is unreliable. Both batteries are managed quite well, and I get good battery life.

Thinkpad x260 (skylake), all intel components.
Everything works smoothly after upgrading to kernel 4.6 from AUR - see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=212000

Features that work perfectly with kernel 4.6:
- sleep/wakeup
- external monitor hot-plugging via mini-DVI cable
- separate battery draining with halt at 5% of battery left for the two batteries.
- battery life is between 9 hours - 14 hours depending on the usage type ( powertop says 7W-8W with external monitor plugged in, at the moment kernel 4.6 doesn't have CPU pstates working perfectly, I assume in a few months the battery life will improve dramatically )

Only hardware feature that I haven't tested is the bluetooth.

MSI GS40 6QE Phantom.

Pretty sweet machine packing hybrid graphics, 2 Hard drives (I upgraded the nvme and replaced the 7200 drive with an SSD), 32 GB ram (upgraded), with latest Intel Skylake i7 in a sleek 14" form factor. This thing has a smaller footprint then my Macbook Pro (although it is a bit thicker).

Bluetooth currently doesn't work as the vendor botched the device name by colliding with an older device. I've noticed some other posts on the forum that suggest some fixes for this, but I have yet to try it.

I also can't get Bumblebee or PRIME to work properly so I have to manually blacklist nvidia and nouveau and then modprobe nouveau on boot. I have more info on this thread. This allows me to disable the discrete GPU for now which ups my estimated battery from 2-2.5hr to 6-6.5hr O.o.

Hopefully the drivers will improve as this is a pretty new GTX 970M GPU.
