Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd Gen freeze

Hello together,

unfortunately I am facing massive issues with my Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd Gen (Intel i7 5500U // Intel HD Graphics 5500) right now:
After a while (between 15 min and 1 hour) the whole system freezes (could be just Xorg) - so I can't do anything. I tried everything written down in this article: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/in … tel_driver but nothing helps.

Journalctl isn't giving any error feedback. The last thing reported is some wireless related stuff that happened 5 minutes before the crash.

When the freeze occurs i am always running Chrome and some terminals + most of the times Netbeans IDE. So I wonder if the problem could also be Java related (in contradiction to that theory --> it also occured once when I just watched some netflix on Chrome).

I ran the Lenovo hardware tests as well (the ones you can select on startup) and no issues were reported there.

Thank you so much in advance - I really don't know what to do next.

//Jonas

Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd Gen freeze

Try booting into -lts: that seems to solve this issue for most people...

Moving to NC.

Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd Gen freeze

I have the same issue. It started in September 2016 (2 weeks ago) and I believe that the https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=216843 thread is also related.
My machine is Lenovo X Carbon 3rd gen (Intel i7 5500U + Intel HD Graphics 5500). Setting SNA or UXA for accel method doesn't help.
LTS kernel crashes too...

Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd Gen freeze

Hi,
I know that it's an old discussion, but I have the exact same problem with the exact same laptop since a while now...
Did someone manage to solve this problem?
Thanks,
Ellypsis

Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd Gen freeze

It's extremely unlikely that you have the "exact same" problem, even if the symptoms seem similar. Even if it were there simply has been too much divergence in softwaer landscape in three years. Open up your own thread and post a journal and xorg log as well as details about your driver set up.

Closing this old thread.
