OpenVPN connection with NetworkManager doesn't work where CLI does.

I have installed the OpenVPN plugin for the NetworkManager - networkmanager-openvpn 1.2.2-1 on top of the openvpn 2.3.11-1;
I have a connection configured to use certificates with a user name and password (two factor authentication, I believe). Every time I try to connect via NetworkManager I've got an authentication error (nm-openvpn-WARNING **: Password verification failed), whereas with OpenVPN CLI works perfectly.

Any hint on how to investigate this further ? Is this linked to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=751842 ?
