With remote sftp filesystems opening a new folder takes a long time. For example opening the folder /etc/ (with ~170 elements) takes around 5s. The time scales directly with the number of elements in a directory. I tried this in pcmanfm and thunar (which both use gvfs as a backend?).
Is this an inherent limitation of sftp or gvfs-sftp or a misconfiguration of my server? Does anyone make similar experiences or is this a bug on my side?
The bulk file transfer speed over sftp is not really fast (~1.5Mb/s) but not slow enough to explain the long time it takes for a directory listing.
Any help appreciated!
