VNC crashes

I routinely access my desktop using VNC... almost always, it's to launch Steam (I play with a Steam Link in the other room).
8/10 times however, my VNC session crashes just after launching Steam, and I have to restart the service (x11vnc).
I've made sure ipv6 is enabled on my system (I'd heard that having it disabled can cause VNC to crash).
The options I launch VNC with are:

-noipv6 -auth guess -forever -noipv6 -ncache_cr -noxdamage -repeat -rfbauth /home/yochai/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5999 -shared -display :0

My logs are here.

Any ideas? Conversely, I'd love to know of a way to quickly launch/close Steam on Display 0; sort of like WoL but if the system is already started. I can't leave Steam always running.
Thanks

Re: VNC crashes

yochaigal,

I actually recommend This project.
Its very powerful and you don't need a running xsession for it.
Since it boots it up using ssh.

Its more secure and powerfull and also transfers audio.

Re: VNC crashes

I've used x2go for quite some time - initially, it had issues with x2godesktopsharing (Arch-specific) but those were resolved; the main issue I have with it now is that VNC is far, far faster - I'm not sure why. It's also really really blurry.

Re: VNC crashes

Actually the fuzziness seems fixed now; I'll toy with the slowness and see if I can get it a little better! Thanks for the tip either way.

Re: VNC crashes

I have had problems with x11vnc crashes too. I have 2 related posts:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=213407
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=213859

I frequently VNC connect (with ssh) to a Linux computer on a remote network to administrate >40 Windows machines running VNC servers available only on the LAN and which do not have ssh servers. Configuring each with Cygwin, etc. is not going to happen because site machines change too frequently and operators can do no more than simple installation tasks.  For me, the x2go solution is not compatible with the task I need to perform.

Because I view VNC desktops via a VNC desktop, responsiveness is critical. I have not been able to find an x11vnc alternative with similar responsiveness.

So, I continue to use x11vnc-0.9.13-7.

Re: VNC crashes

So, X2go is great and all (except clipboard sync seems broken). However, my larger issue is that when connecting from a machine with a different resolution, the fonts are "fuzzy" and unreadable. Any ideas? I've tried out different resolutions as well as different compression types.
