How do you activate mac randomization in the new networkmanager 1.4 ?
I've tried with both ethernet.assigned-mac-address=random and 802-3-ethernet.assigned-mac-address=random in NetworkManager.conf (reference), under [device] and also under [connection] but it doesn't do anything.

I think it's active by default.
Just compare ip link output before and after reboot.

You're right! For some reason my ethernet card's mac is not randomized (only wifi and mobile are), so I thought there was a syntax error somewhere in my NetworkManager.conf. I removed my edits and macs are still randomized. Thanks.

This doc doesn't seem to be up to date. The current syntax according to "man NetworkManager.conf" is:
wifi.cloned-mac-address=random
ethernet.cloned-mac-address=random

We need to turn this off if we're using a static ip for our devices behind the router?

No reason to do so except in case you set up MAC filtering.
By the way, randomization by default is active only for scanning nearby networks.
