Wifi not Working

Hi everyone,
So, i have arch linux installed on my computer, and it was working fine, until this morning: when I turned it on, wifi just stopped working. I find that really odd, because I hadn't even updated packages (I saw some people saying they had problems with the latest networkmanager version), the only thing I did was change my shell to zsh. But even then, I tried changing back to bash, and it didn't solve the problem either. Even wifi-menu is not working... When I connect an ethernet cable, everything's fine, but I really need wifi working. Can anyone help me?

Re: Wifi not Working

What are the symptoms when Wifi doesn't work?  What are the errors, what is recorded in the systemd journal?  journalctl has a follow option so you can see the messages as they occur.

Re: Wifi not Working

First, you need to exclude any hardware issue: can you use the Archlinux install disk and test wifi-menu? Or with dual-boot (if available) or trying the adapter on another machine? Do you have any message in dmesg or journalctl -x -e?

Just a quick note on Network Manager. Sometimes, it asks for the wifi password on a loop. Other times (like the one from this log), it just doesn't do a single thing.

Re: Wifi not Working

Make sure both wpa_supplicant and network manager aren't both enabled at the same time running this should show you what's active:

systemctl list-units --type service --state active

Re: Wifi not Working

Ok, so I did what you told me to, and found that both the network manager and wpa_supplicant are active. Which one should I disable?

Re: Wifi not Working

I am not sure what "Alive" means -- enabled or started?  NetworkManager needs wpa_supplicant to operate.  It will start wpa_supplicant when it needs it.  As I don't use NetworkManager, I don't know if it launches it directly, or if it launches it by starting it through systemd.  The point being, if it is Enabled, then systemd will start it stand alone.  This prevents NetworkManager from being able to control it.   If wpa_suuplicant is enabled, then disable it.

Please post the output of find /etc/systemd

The output of the command find /etc/systemd is:

/etc/systemd
/etc/systemd/user
/etc/systemd/user/default.target.wants
/etc/systemd/user/default.target.wants/xdg-user-dirs-update.service

/etc/systemd/logind.conf
/etc/systemd/journald.conf
/etc/systemd/timesyncd.conf
/etc/systemd/network
/etc/systemd/journal-remote.conf
/etc/systemd/resolved.conf
/etc/systemd/journal-upload.conf
/etc/systemd/coredump.conf

When I disabled wpa_supplicant, NetworkManager stopped showing me the available networks... It justs shows the first one, and the others are simply not shown... I'll try to reboot the computer and see what happens.

Well, rebooting didn't work... Same problem: it only shows the first result, and all the others are not shown... What do I do now?

Re: Wifi not Working

/etc/systemd/system/netctl@wlp1s3\x2dMEO\x2dBG.service is your problem.  You cannot use netctl and NetworkManager at the same time.
Also, I am not sure about /etc/systemd/system/dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service.  Seems odd to me.
Finally, wpa_supplicant was not enabled to begin with (assuming that list was generated prior to your disabling it)

Re: Wifi not Working

I disabled /etc/systemd/system/netctl@wlp1s3\x2dMEO\x2dBG.service, and something really odd happened... Now I can see all the networks available, but when I try to connect to one, an error message pops up, saying "Connection failed: Activation of network connection failed"
