On my external connected monitor via
(a) - dockingstation D3100
(b) - pluggable thunderbolt3-to-hdmi-connector
I get a ca 1 second long freeze every 10 seconds.
In my journal, everytime the lag occurs, I get these Lines:
Nov 10 13:16:20 XPS kernel: evdi: [D] evdi_detect:69 (dev=1) Painter is connected
Nov 10 13:16:20 XPS kernel: evdi: [D] evdi_painter_get_edid_copy:192 (dev=1) 00 ff ffWhat could cause these freezes?
How can I remove them?

New problem? If yes find update that broke things, bisect and report bug upstream. If not gather all the useful information that can help people help you and post it here. Asking what is wrong and how to fix it without providing any useful information is not going to work.

So tell me where I get information which is useful for you.

I'm not going to play the twenty question game with you, I already gave you enough hints/advice on what you should look into and what you should provide. It seems to me that if you really want to you seem to know where to look and what to look for.
Do your homework and help others help you, we don't do hand holding here.

I have added journal lines, is it enought? I really don't know what else I could add.

Let's start with the environment. The edid gets downloaded frequently.
This could be a wonky connection, but if it's really "frequent" (as in 0.1 Hz), something is likely polling the screens.
=> log into a failsafe session (only an xterm) and see whether the problem exists there as well.
Online
I can't log into a failsafe because there my displays are not working.

man xrandr
Online
seth, I don't know what this can help me. Could you please give more details?
And the bigger question is: how to launch into failsafe xterm?

You'd better use startx in this case, but as a general answer:
cat /usr/share/xsessions/failsafe.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Failsafe
Comment=Safe to fail
Exec=/usr/bin/xterm
TryExec=/usr/bin/xterm
Icon=xterm
Type=ApplicationAnd with your attitude, this is more help than you deserve.
We're not solving problems for you but help you to solve them yourself.
That's not gonna work if you don't get your ass up and rather blatantly lie about conditions instead.

I found out that I get the lag every time when the brightness of my laptop screen is also set to 0. So where the hell is it managed that my laptop screen gets brighten out every 10 seconds? what rule is working there which is causing my freezes?
How can I find out what is setting the brightness to 0?

You still didn't even mention which desktop environment this is, so we don't even have a *hint* on whether this is X11 or wayland.

Are you kidding? I mean, are you just trolling to waste somebodys time or what is this?
*Everything* you observe is explained in the last post where you out of the void show a CUSTOM LOCAL recursive udev/script relation which operates on a 0.2 Hz frequency and also calls a backlight tool (from AUR)
You basically knew where the problem most likely stems from and come here and have us guess based on no information on your customized setup.
The only thing one *may* need to tell you is that the xrandr query polls all outputs what explains the edid download as well as (to a certain degree) the stalls.
Sorry, but I feel just pranked.

I am sorry, but can you please tell me now how exactly I can fix this? When I remove the udev-rule, my screen gets still lightened out and I have the lag.
EDIT: I have found out that it has nothing todo with my script or udev-rule. It must have todo something with the displaylink stuff. It only freezes in i3, but when I am in lightdm (because locked) it doesn't have the minilag-freezes.
EDIT II: I have found out that there is a systemd rule from displaylink that reruns every 5 seconds. maybe we can work with this info to fix the laggy freeze problem.
