Sierra Wireless EM7355 - Gobi 5000 Cellular modem on Thinkpad

I'm trying to get my  sierra gobi 5000 lte modem working and have aa interface similar to the mobile broadband manager found in Antergos.

This is my first time installing Arch Linux I previously was on Antergos where everything worked amazing out of the box including this gobi5000 lte modem.

I attempted to follow the instructions here
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Go … and_Modems

I became lost when my firmware files look totally different than the ones for the instructions for the 3000. I havnt been able to find any guides for the 5000.

#lsusb        Bus 003 Device 006: ID 1199:901f Sierra Wireless, Inc.

the firmware files I extracted from a windows install are

imageinfo.xml
carrier_pri.nvu
spkg_sblz.cwe
9999999_9901234_SWI9X15C_05.05.39.00_00_SBM15953_001.000_000.spk

Any help is greatly appreciated. I really on lte for my work.

+1 to having the same problem.  I've been searching the internet all day, but can't find anything for the gobi 5000 cards, only the 2000's and a little on 3000's.  Surprisingly enough, though, I do see an additional entry when I run "ifconfig -a" or "ip addr", though.  I don't have a sim card presently, but I don't even know what I'd do from here if I had one.

Also, related thread maybe: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=214059
Another article that seems to get somewhere is here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Th … e_internet

I followed the instructions, but am unable to run the activation application (because I don't have Windows).

Update: I took a look at the discussion thread for the page and it looks like maybe our card is an MBIM card, not QMI, but when I try to run the mbim utilities, I don't get anything more promising ("error: couldn't open the MbimDevice: Failure").

Re: Sierra Wireless EM7355 - Gobi 5000 Cellular modem on Thinkpad

If it used to work with Antergos(1) that is a good thing, it means that it is possible to make it work on linux.

You probably want to try to find out what Antergos changes to make it work and then do the same changes in your Arch install. Do things step by step, don't try to use the last piece of the puzzle right away as that will most probably mislead you.

Regarding the wiki and firmware versions, do keep in mind that the wiki page may not contain the most up-to-date information, do take the information there as guidelines and not as something you can follow blindly. You may also have to combine the information from two or more different wiki pages to get things to work. Try to understand what you are doing, use google to search any error messages you may get in the process and if you are stuck ask for help here, make sure you explain what you have done and tried, people are more willing to help if they see you have made and effort and are genuinely stuck and not just waiting for someone else to solve your problem.

You should also be patient, you might really need this working now but keep in mind that your problem is related to something that not that many people use and everyone here comes from different time zones. While you wait for replies keep trying to solve the problem yourself, keep googling and look at wikis/forums of other distributions, maybe you can get some clues to solve your problem, however don't ask for help with Arch in other distro's forums, when don't like when that happens here so we shouldn't do it in other forums.
