Hi all,
I'm going to be setting up my home server to use ZFS Raidz (Raid-5) with 3 x 2 TB drives (and I may add another RAIDZ vdev to the pool later 3 x 250GB drives). I've read about ZIL (ZFS Intent Log) and L2ARC (Layer 2 Adaptive Replacement Cache) and how they can improve write/read performance. I would like to dedicate some space for this on my main SSD, which the OS currently runs off. I'm using LVM on the OS SSD so can easily create 2 logical volumes - one for the ZIL and one for the L2ARC.
My question is - how much space should I give each of these?
This is my first time setting up ZFS so would appreciate some advice. I have read many forum posts / blogs but still feel a little unclear on this question.
Thanks - Justin
