MariaDB and SonarQube, MariaDB's support of MySQL versions > 5.5

I'm trying to set up a SonarQube server backed by a MariaDB instance. The version of MariaDB I'm using is 10.1.20-1. I however get the error
org.sonar.api.utils.MessageException: Unsupported mysql version: 5.5. Minimal supported version is 5.6.
At this post, which describes my problem but for an older version of SonarQube, it is mentioned that
"MariaDB 10 is MySQL 5.6 compatible", although I'm also reading about some incompatabilities. So that basically Sonar's version check should be disabled. As I would like to avoid rebuilding Sonar, I was wondering whether there are any other solutions, or if I should just grab postgresql. Any help would be appreciated!
