Terminus font shows up as NotoSans.

So I recently installed both Terminus-font from the repository and terminus-font-ttf from AUR. The font works fine in Conky but DWM and URXVT don't show Terminus as Terminus but as NotoSans. fc-match terminus returns "NotoSans-Regular.ttf: "Noto Sans" "Regular"". How would I go about changing it?

Re: Terminus font shows up as NotoSans.

I've got a similar problem after a system upgrade today. For me, Terminus is being mapped to DejaVu Sans which is extremely annoying in urxvt.

First I suspected the upgrade of freetype2 (2.7-2 -> 2.7.1-1), but downgrading (and issuing fc-cache -f) did not fix it.

Here's my list of packages that have been upgraded, maybe I just didn't spot the right package:

[2017-01-03 19:26] [ALPM] upgraded parallel (20161122-1 -> 20161222-1)

I've confirmed this behaviour on another machine, i.e. fc-match showing the correct mapping before and the wrong mapping after the system upgrade.

Re: Terminus font shows up as NotoSans.

Well, mea culpa: downgrading freetype2 to 2.7-2 and then issuing fc-cache -r does indeed fix the problem for me.

I'd suggest you try this and see if it works for you as well.

Re: Terminus font shows up as NotoSans.

Same problem here, although I've just installed fresh system and cannot downgrade easily.
Any hints for workaround until the freetype2 gets fixed?

I've seen some versions based on 2.7-2 in AUR and wanted to give it a try but removing the original package with its dependencies first looks like a nightmare.

check through the output of

$ fc-list

See if terminus is listed under a different name such as "xos4 Terminus" see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=221557

- PCF family names are made more `colourful'; they now include the foundry and information whether they contain wide characters. For example, you no longer get `Fixed' but rather `Sony Fixed' or `Misc Fixed Wide'.

This appears to be an intentional change to me.

Re: Terminus font shows up as NotoSans.

@loqs: Thank you for precise advices and the links, you were right.

@ogsod: Please check if that solves your problem as well

  1. Check name under which Terminus font is detected

    fc-list | grep -i terminus
    /usr/share/fonts/misc/ter-122n.pcf.gz: xos4 Terminus:style=Regular
    [...]

So it was "xos4 Terminus" indeed.

  2. Update the name in config files
    For me that was ~/.Xresources

    [...]
    URxvt*font: xft:xos4 Terminus:pixelsize=17
    URxvt*boldFont: xft:xos4 Terminus:pixelsize=17
    [...]

    and ~/.config/i3/config

    [...]
    font pango:xos4 Terminus 10
    [...]
    bindsym $mod+d exec --no-startup-id dmenu_run -fn "xos4 Terminus:pixelsize=14" [...]
    [...]

With dwm you will need to edit source file(s) with new font name and rebuild it.
